Best Desserts of 2022

I have eaten a lot of desserts inside and outside Vancouver restaurants in the past year, these are the ones that are standouts, ones that you remember for a long time to come. This list is devoted to my favourite desserts that I have eaten in 2022 at restaurants that are still open to this day.

Note: These are not in any ranking order

Lucuma Ice Cream Alfajores

Lucuma Ice Cream Alfajores is made with a shortbread cookie with dulce de leche in the middle topped with Lucuma (it’s the most popular Peruvian fruit) ice cream, garnished with raspberries, and finished with gold dust; very creative dessert by Chef Mercedes Yu.

Chocolate Tamal

Chocolate Tamale is an incredible Mexican dessert (that originates in Mexico City) with crème anglaise, chocolate ganache and pumpkin seed brittle and a long story on how this delicious dessert came to be part of the dessert offerings.

This Thai take on a traditional tiramisu won 1st place in the Vancouver Tiramisu Challenge. A beautiful presentation of this unique take on a traditonal tiramisu that was made by infusing Thai Coffee with British spiced Rum, in-house made ladyfingers, with layers of cream mascarpone whipped with Thai tea flavour and topped with white chocolate Thai tea ganache. Arranged in a half sphere shape and served with coco-almond crumbles and garnish with edible flowers by Chef Sadapphin Phothong.

The Peach Pit

An incredible dessert with basil mousse. coconut sponge. matcha moss. peach vanilla compote. strawberry gel. chocolate soil; by executive pastry chef Kiko Nakata.

Hong Kong French Toast

Peanut butter stuffed French toast, creme anglaise, whipped cream, pistachio biscotti; such a delicious brunchy dessert; by Chef Liam Breen.

Veneto Tiramisu

Lady fingers dipped in a mix of espresso, kahlua, frangelico, and cocoa; layered with a vanilla mascarpone cream and topped with a chocolate ricotta cream, cocoa powder and a sugar dusted mint leaf; a delicious creation by Chef Adam Foster.

Baked Baklava Cheese Cake

This Greek cheese cake dessert raises the bar so to speak with Baklava Bites and Chocolate Ganache on the side, by Chef Dimitris Patshs.

Pistachio & Cassis Torte

This incredible dessert is made up of layers of pistachio sponge cake and cassis creme filling making for a delicious bite and was created by Chef Martha Ebro for the Let Them Eat Cake Afternoon Tea.

Chestnut Éclair

Outstanding choux pastry filled with chestnut creme, topped with a chocolate glaze and a chocolate leaf, featured for the Holiday Afternoon Tea.

Pecan Praline Bar

Such a beautiful plate with praline crunch, milk chocolate mousse, white chocolate and caramel glacage, orange and pecan tuile, torched Italian meringue.
