Specializing in traditional Northern Indian cuisine with a hint of Southern Indian cuisine, this Kitsilano eatery has regulars returning week after week for it’s tasty dishes. Over a couple of visits, I have tried a selection of dishes from the menu offering such as their popular Butter Chicken as well as their delicious Lamb Korma with boneless pieces of lamb in mughlai style cashew and onion curry; and Chicken Madras, a specialty from South India with a flavourful roasted coconut curry and black mustard.
The Fish Malabari had a creamy curry and was quite unique with blend of coriander and coconut curry. Other dishes that I have had in other Indian restaurants were both flavourful of which they included the Smokey Eggplant Bartha with baby Indian eggplant finished with onion, tomato, coconut & curry leaves; and the Palak Paneer which had fine chopped spinach and paneer with caramelized onion, tomato, freshly ground spices.. All of the curries paired well with the flavourful Coconut rice.
The Garlic Basil Naan was soft and flavourful and the Kashmiri Naan was fluffy and stuffed with minced nuts and dry fruits.
I tried the popular Gulab Jamun, but it was the Saffron rice pudding that stole the show so to speak offering up a distinct Saffron flavour and yummy ending to a great meal.
They offer up a good selection of wines, beer as well as cocktails. Take friends, take family and truly enjoy the wonderful Indian specialties.
