Spot Prawn Tasting Menu at Missing Chopsticks

This hidden gem restaurant opened in an off the beat location in Richmond earlier this Spring and specialize in offering a specific Tasting Menu that runs for approximately four weeks. They usually offer two seatings nightly between Wednesday – Sunday.

Chef Edward and his high school friend Louis are partners in this destination driven restaurant that is all about creative Tasting Menus that are Modern French with an Asian twist.

Lawrence joined me as we visited to try their special Spot Prawn tasting menu that ran for a limited time during the Spot Prawn season where most of the courses featured spot prawns.

Each course was exceptional, Here is what we had.

1st course:

WINE & DINE

Spot Prawn Tartare, Shaoxing Wine, Fermented Chilli; served with Black sesame crackers; perfectly paired with a glass of white.

2nd course:

MOREL

White Asparagus, Spot Prawns; an outstanding dish pairing three seasonal items together in a flavourful sauce with morels accentuating the plate.

3rd course:

BISQUE

Lobster bisque. Pan Seared Spot Prawns, and Tempura spot prawn shells; a rich lobster bisque poured into the bowl with large spot prawns. They served a side of tempura spot prawn heads and shells to eat together.

4th course:

Chef Edward Cheng

RAVIOLI

Spot Prawn and scallop mousse filled ravioli with a butter vermouth sauce, green onion oil drizzle; another outstanding dish and plating.

5th course:

HALIBUT

White Asparagus, with a “Shao Xing” wine Beurre blanc sauce, asparagus, hokkigai and ikura.(I had this amazing dish instead of the duck dish)

5th course:

DUCK & PRAWN

with taro, pine nut and peach (Lawrence had this dish) and it came with the side dish of duck confit covered with this unique white foam providing for a delicious surprise.

7th course:

DESSERT

Bird’s Nest, Grapes, Ginger infused panna cotta to finish the outstanding dinner on an a high note.

The restaurant also features a private dining room upstairs that can be booked for private dinner gatherings. Advance reservations are necessary and I would make them at least 2-4 weeks in advance if not longer especially if you have more than two people who wish to dine together.
