Advice: Sit in the Solarium on a bright day.
Love Middle Eastern cuisine, over the years I have enjoyed the flavours of Israelli, Lebanese and Syrian dishes. I recently had my first taste of Palestinian Cuisine found right here in East Vancouver. A charming spot with a cuisine that is not common in our area of the world, the eatery is a gem with wonderful food and hospitable service.
To begin I had a taster of their heartwarming Vegetarian Lentil Soup ($5 for regular size). Za’atar is a middle eastern spice blend that I fell in love with years ago travelling in Israel, I then found it in other cuisines such as Syrian, here I saw it on the menu and it was a must. I had the delicious Manakeesh Za’atar ($5.50) a dish that is only available on weekends and you have to ask for it as it’s not on their menu. I have had haloumi before, here it is done quite different and the flavours are so unique. The Halloumi with grilled eggplant ($8.50) was outstanding and flavourful.
The lunch and dinner menus are vast with quite a selection of very different dishes found in our area, they are full of dishes that you would find in the Palestinian culture. If you haven’t experienced this cuisine before, you will find many ingredients which may be common in other cultures, I can’t wait to try more of their dishes especially their Humus and tahini, Sambusec, Freekah toasted greenwheat with Roasted Lamb as well as all of their desserts.
