On October 10, I attended the Chocolate Challenge 2013 Finale where the Top 6 entries recipes were prepared by Peter Fong and his team at Ganache Patisserie. Many entrants were narrowed down to 6 finalists and none were professional chefs.
Congratulations to the winners Clifford Hammerschmidt (Home Cook Category) who’s winning dish was “Chocolate, Caramelized Peanut & Banana Tart with Smoked Meringue” and Miriiam Popam (Student Category) who’s winning dish was “Chocolate Mousse with Orange Curd”. The Judges were Chefs Rob Feenie, Thomas Haas and Greg Hook for the 2nd year in a row.
The Grand Finale charity event was a gastronomic evening filled with food, wine and chocolate. Hosted by Sophie Lui of Global TV.
Gourmet Warehouse was the gracious host of the evening event and $16,000 proeeds from the Chocolate Challenge 2013 were donated to the Strathcona Back-Pack Program.
