On November 7th, I attended Dine Lombardia featuring a special menu created by Chef Neil Taylor at Cibo, paired with wines from the Lombardy region of Italy.
This dinner was one of five dinners that the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vancouver is hosting this month to celebrate food and wine from five regions around Italy.
Now on to dinner and the pairings!
First Course:
Nervetti with mostarda di Cremona
paired with Casa Vinicola Negri, Rivoletto Lambrusco Montovano
Second Course:
Casonsel stuffed with salame, greens, raisins, amaretti and grana padano
paired with Monte Cicogna Santa Caterino, Lugana, 2009
Third Course:
Risotto alla Milanese
paired with Tenuta Boffenisio, Bonardo Piacere Organic 2004
Fourth Course:
Cazzuola alla Milanese
paired with Casa Vinicola Aldo Rainoldi, Nebbiolo IGT 2008
Fifth Course:
Cheeses from Lombardy
paired with Tenuta Maggiore Amphorae Clelia, Croatina
Sixth Course:
Torta Paradiso con Marscapone
paired with Caffe Corretto
Comments: All of the wines and courses were well paired. My favourite dishes was the Casonsel stuffed pasta with salame, greens, raisins, amaretti and grana padano paired with Monte Cicogna Santa Caterino, Lugana, 2009; and the Risotto alla Milanese paired with Tenuta Boffenisio, Bonardo Piacere Organic 2004 and lastly the Torta Paradiso con Marscapone that I had on its own without the Caffe Corretto.
Cibo Trattoria is located at 900 Seymour Street in Vancouver
