First Taste of Toloache Mexican Kitchen

Specializing in Mexican Street Food, this wonderful eatery opened a month ago in the heart of downtown Vancouver. It’s a casual spot where you can come by and order and get your food to stay or to go and they are open daily for breakfast, lunch, happy hour and dinner. They feature house-made margaritas as well as other drinks and beer.

The restaurant is locally owned by Rodrigo and his family, he is passionate about his culture and the dishes from his home country and here it is all about the street food you would find back in Mexico. The restaurant name, Toloache means flower; and the colours inside the restaurant represent that colourful flower. The restaurant seats 100, so there is a lot of room for large groups to dine.

These are the dishes and drink that I tried.

I loved the Chicken Mole Taquitos which are doused in a delicious house-made mole.

Mango and rose slushy was refreshing and non-alcoholic.

The Chicken Karaage Taco is a flour tortilla topped with tasty chicken karaage with a Korean sauce twist and a kick of heat.

The Tuna Ceviche was glorious and it came with tortilla chips.

Ahi Tuna tostada was very good with a crispy corn base topped with fresh ahi tuna cubes. Cochinita Bao came in a soft bao bun that is filled with juicy pork. The Alambre rice bowl (rib eye steak) and this is a meal, the bowl is filled with rice, beans, corn topped with the steak and some sauces.

Horchata is refreshing and tasty, made of rice milk with a touch of cinnamon.

Flan de queso is made in house and heavenly.
