I attended this wonderful dinner at Craft Beer Market on August 26th that featured a 4 course meal created by Executive Chef Cam McGowan paired with a variety of beers from local brewer Deep Cove Craft. It was great to have Chef McGowan explain each of the dishes as they were served as well as have the Brewmaster Kevin Emms on hand to talk about each of the beers.
Now on to dinner and the pairings!
A welcome beer was served during the reception featuring the Trapper John’s Lager.
First Course:
Spelt Risotto with sunflower greens, and roasted heirloom vegetables paired with the Sun Kissed Tea Saison Ale which is their helistyle German beer.
Second Course:
Spanish style Paella with Salt Spring Island mussels and Two Rivers Meats chorizo paired with the Loud Mouth Pale Ale.
Third Course:
Southern style Jerk Duck Breast with a watermelon salad paired with the Star Struck Rye IPA
Fourth Course:
Oatmeal Stout Cakes with whiskey cream and Okanagan apples paired with the Smooth Criminal Stout
My Take:
My favourite of the food dishes and pairings was the outstanding Southern style Jerk Duck Breast with a watermelon salad paired with the Star Struck Rye IPA, it had magnificent flavours all around and the duck breast was perfectly cooked. My Second favourite pairing was the last course, the Oatmeal Stout Cakes with whiskey cream and Okanagan apples paired with the Smooth Criminal Stout for the sweet finish to a fine meal.
