In 2005, Feenie became the first Canadian to win on the popular television show Iron Chef America by defeating Chef Masaharu Morimoto. To celebrate this fete 10 years ago, a reunion menu was orchestrated by Cactus Club Restaurants of which Chef Rob Feenie has spent the past years leading the kitchen. On February 11, I dined at Cactus Club Coal Harbour where Chef Feenie about kick off, the 10th year reunion dinner of his Iron Chef win.
1st course:
Duo of Dungeness Crab Spring rolls, served cold and paired with the Blue Mountain sparkling brut m/v
2nd course:
Crab Ravioli with truffle brute blanc, my favourite of the dishes, paired with the Vincent Delaporte Sancerre 2013, Loire, France
3rd course:
Dungeness Crab and Roasted Sablefish, delicious flavours; paired with the Eco Chardonnay 2013, Casablanca Chile
4th course:
Veal Neptune With Crab and black truffles; paired with the Tantalus Pinot Noir 2011, West Kelowna, BC
5th course:
Peekytoe Crab Vanilla Panna Cotta
The wonderful meal of the evening was a team effort and this time around it was Chef Rob Feenie and his team of chefs that rounded the applause.
