Afternoon Tea is an art and should be an extraordinary experience one that you will cherish. Vancouver has some wonderful places for you to indulge in an Afternoon Tea experience. Each of the places is unique in what they offer along with the type of service and selection of sandwiches, pastries and desserts. I am on a journey around the city to find these extraordinary places.
Experienced the beautiful and delicious ‘Summer Water Lilies’ Afternoon Tea in the stunning lobby lounge at the Siam Kempinski Hotel in Bangkok last week. It is an artful afternoon tea collaboration between Chef Franck Istel and the renowned decorative and furniture design artist Jiraparn Tokeeree.
Lawrence joined me and we started off with a selection of their Ronnefeldt Tea; I had the Teastar Golden Oolong (China, Spring) and Lawrence had the Siam Harmony Green Tea (China, Spring).
We then enjoyed a selection of their scones, which were vanilla and currant, they were served with raspberry jam, Devonshire-style clotted cream and lemon curd.
Their afternoon tea presentation features a design inspired by summer lotus leaves. The bottom plate offers a selection of savouries, including Blue Swimmer Crab Cajun Remoulade with Avocado and Mango Cream, Salmon Mousse and Red Caviar with Dill and Lemon, Tomato Burrata Canelé with Thai Basil Pesto on Shortbread, and Smoked Duck Breast Tartlet with Apple Ginger Jelly. Each bite showcases the richness of Thailand’s tropical resources.
The middle and top plate features a sweet plate of five pairs of French-style desserts, showcasing the perfection of art and flavour. Taste the royals’ favourite style of pastries, crafted with the finest use of Thailand’s famous fruits, including Inspiration Passion Fruit Choux, Almond Pineapple in Dulcey Cup, Pistachio Strawberry Entremets, and Thai Coconut Milk Chocolate Layer Cake.
To conclude this royal-like experience, guests are treated to a scoop of refreshing sorbet. We both had Mango sorbet, but they also offer lemon and raspberry.
The afternoon tea experience is accompanied by enchanting live harp music from Tong-Juan Wang. She has crafted a summer-dedicated playlist for guests to enhance this afternoon tradition from Tuesday to Sunday.
This experience will depict a beautiful summer setting of the Sra Pathum palace. Once a lotus pond within this royal mansion, the tower of delights narrates the palace’s summer tale through a crafted selection of French-and-Thai savories and pastries by Chef Franck Istel.
This themed afternoon tea is now running through to the end of July 2024 from 1-5pm at 1897 Lounge on the ground floor of Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok at 991, 9 Rama I Rd, Pathum Wan, Bangkok, Thailand.
