To celebrate International Womens Day, the Rogue Kitchen hosted the Pink Pints organized Women in Beer pairing dinner on March 8th. Chef Cory Chapman created 8 tasting plates which were paired to each of the 8 beers from BC based breweries and he did it from tasting notes. He did not have the opportunity to taste any of the beers until after the dinner was over, this was quite impressive as he was able to capture the flavours of several of the dishes with the various beers.
Now on to dinner and the pairings!
First Dish:
Country Ham & Apple Kimchi paired with Big River Rose Hibiscus Honey Ale
Second Dish:
Sea Bream Crudo paired with R & B Brewing Lychee Wheat Ale
Third Dish:
Honey Glazed diver Scallop paired with Salt Spring Ales Heather Ale
Fourth Dish:
Smoked Lamb Loin paired with Cannery Brewing Scotch Ale
Fifth Dish:
Mushroom Raviolli paired with Crannog Ales Something Hoppy
Sixth Dish:
Massaman Short Rib paired with Howe Sound Beer Cascadian Dark Ale
Seventh Dish:
Ice Cream Sandwich paired with Nelson Brewing Oatmeal Stout
Eighth Dish:
Chocolate Porter Cake paired with Townsite Brewing Pow Town Porter
Comments:
My favourite of the food dishes and pairings was the delicious Honey Glazed diver Scallop paired with Salt Spring Ales Heather Ale. I thought the Massaman Short Rib paired with Howe Sound Beer Cascadian Dark Ale was outstanding and perfectly paired. Both of the desserts were exceptionally paired with the beers, loved the warm cookies in the Ice Cream Sandwich paired with Nelson Brewing Oatmeal Stout, as well as the outstanding Chocolate Porter Cake paired with Townsite Brewing Pow Town Porter which was brewed that afternoon.
