Montes Wines began in 1987 in Chile with their two original founders, Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray. In 1988, they joined up with the other two founders, Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand, who brought their own complementary skills and expertise to the venture. And thus Montes was born, now Canada welcomes their beautiful wines which are featured on many restaurant wine lists locally and across the country.
I enjoyed tasting a wide selection of their wines as well as some dishes that Chef Chris Whittaker served at Forage Restaurant to pair with some of the notable wines.
House-made and cured Charcuterie with Forage pickles and IPA mustard
Lightly grilled Kale salad, honey and Brie dressing, roasted hazelnuts was stunning
Both dishes paired with Montes, Alpha Chardonnay 2014.
Grilled Salmon with Beurre Rouge, Fire morels, roasted wild rice salad
Braised Turtle Valley Bison blade steak on the bone, grilled garlic scapes, warmed potato salad, chocolate jus, wow what a unique and delicious dish marrying bison and chocolate
Paired with Montes Alpha Syrah 2013
And Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
