On February 20th, I attended this hands on French Macaron class with Chef Yann Fougere and David Boetti at Bon Macaron in Kitsilano. Our class of 8 students were educated on the steps needed to make the best macarons from the shells to the fillings.
This was my first class at Bon Macaron, although I have taken other baking classes in the past including a similar class making macarons a few years ago. Yann demonstrated how they make their Macarons to us, then each of us chose a favourite flavour from their selection of over 40 flavours. The ingredients were pre-portioned for us to then follow the recipe and instructions as we all started the baking process.
During the French Macaron class, we learned many of the tricks of the trade to make these very special cookies.
We worked on various different flavours, colors and fillings.
While the macaron shells were baking we enjoyed a sampling of savoury macarons and a beverage. At the end of the 3 hour class all the macarons are shared amongst all the students, so that everyone leaves with at least 40 macarons in several different flavours!
The class made a selection of macarons with different flavours and fillings. Not only was this a fun afternoon, it was also a change to enjoy some delicious macarons. I made Dulce de Leche macarons. Macarons galore all made in our macaron class in addition to my dulce del Leche, we had watermelon, champagne, coffee, lavender, salted caramel, peach Melba, pistachio and raspberry coconut.
Each class is $90 and includes all tools, utensils & equipment to use along with an apron and you get the recipes to take home and get to enjoy some savoury macarons and a beverage during the class.
Bon Macaron Patisserie is located at 2823 West Broadway and is open daily. Call them ahead to reserve for their classes at 778-265-0850 and follow them on twitter @BonMacaronVic
