Mogiana Coffee Roasters

I met up with co-owners Cristina Dias and Carlos Bertin at their roastery in Burnaby where they are roasting the green beans that are imported from Cristina’s family coffee plantation in Brazil.

Some background history of Mogiana Coffee that was founded in Vancouver, BC in 2008 by Cristina Dias. She grew up in Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, but her summer holidays were always spent at her family’s coffee farm. The farm that was in the Mogiana region of Brazil is where she and her cousins and many of the workers’ children would play among the drying beds and the surrounding fields.

Carlos trained as a chef, understands flavours and is now the head roaster at Mogiana Coffee; where he and Cristina are growing the coffee business locally. The company sells to restaurants, hotels and some cafes as well as at retail in such stores as Whole Foods and Choices markets.

They both toured me around the roastery and showed me their equipment from the bags of imported green beans to the coffee roasting to the packaging area to the finished product.

In addition to the coffee, they also make some other products including a Coffee Rub for cooking and other items. I took some coffee home and made a French Press with their tasty Espresso blend.

Under an affiliate company, Mundo Novo Coffee Roasters they roast coffee for private label customers.
