Cooking at Home with Vegano Foods

Earlier in the fall we had a chance to experience Vegano Foods at home. I was excited to try this service which is similar to another local meal kit service that I like (Fresh Prep), but with Vegano all the dishes and ingredients are vegan. Much like some of the other meal kit companies they have created a selection of their own recipes to make it easy for home cooks to make the dishes in approx. 30 mins.

As most know I am not vegan, but I do believe that incorporating plant based foods into your diet is a good idea, I was excited to hear about a locally based meal kit service that delivers fresh ready to make meals to your home which are 100% vegan or plant based if you prefer those words. Each of their meal kits include the ingredients that are neatly organized for a grab-and-go cooking experience while following along with the recipe QR code which is attached to each bag.

I prepared all the ingredients that came in each of the bagged meal kits and placed it on the kitchen counter. Once set-up I looked at the QR code on the outside of the bag for the recipe which listed the other ingredients that may be needed from our own pantry such as salt, pepper or olive oil.

The idea for this meal kit service is that they shop, chop, and deliver fresh vegan recipe ingredients directly to your home or office each week. Since they buy direct from the local farms you get great product and you are supporting local. In a paper bag that comes boxed, you’ll receive just the right amount of almost every ingredient along with simple instructions to cook a meal you’ll love in under 30 minutes. Prepared ingredients mean zero prep required and fewer dishes to clean up. Each week Vegano offers a selection of different dishes to choose from; they then pre-select some dishes; but you can review and change it as you wish.

Over three nights during the week I cooked three different Vegano meals and each was a delicious nutritious meal, however, my absolute favourite meal was the Smoked Tofu and Brussel Sprouts on a bed of harissa hummus.

The process is fairly easy, you set up an account with Vegano online while setting up for your first delivery, you choose the number of meals you want and for 2-person meals or the family kit. You then get all the pre-portioned ingredients along with the recipes delivered to your home.

The other dishes I made were:

Japanese Tofu Katsu Curry

Persian Saffron Cauliflower
