Experiencing the new Five Sails Restaurant

It’s been over 15 years since I last visited Five Sails, this iconic fine dining restaurant has been around for many years and has one of the most stunning views of the city’s harbour. Last night I enjoyed a wonderful dinner with some media friends, many of which hadn’t dined there in many years as well. The restaurant was recently purchased by Glowbal Restaurant Group after previous owners Chef Ernst Dorfler and Gerry Sayers retired at the end of 2019 and they aren’t going to change much, the restaurant will get a facelift renovation in April; most of the former staff have stayed on, one of the servers remarked that he has worked there for 31 years.

The Chef’s Tasting Menu featured multiple courses with wine pairings along with a stellar view of the harbour on a clear night.

1st course:

Lobster Bisque with shaved black truffle

2nd course:

Fresh Dungeness Crab with mango, apple and passionfruit gelee

3rd course:

Miso & Sake Marinated Sable Fish with spun potatoes, saffron butter sauce

4th course:

Honey Glazed Smoked Duck Breast with braised red cabbage puree, salsify pine nuts, huckleberry sauce

Tantalus Pinot Noir

5th course:

Seared AAA Alberta Beef Filet with blue infused golden potato pave, silky madeira sauce

6th course:

The Five Sails Grand Marnier Souffle served with rum & raisin ice cream, and crème anglaise

Petit Fours to end

If you haven’t visited this iconic gem in years, now is your chance to go and rediscover.
