Advice: Closed Sundays.

With it’s focus on Omakase style, owner/chef Hiroki Watanabe changes the menu nightly at his Kitsilano restaurant that specializes in Japanese cuisine which only offers tasting menus. The standard offering is a 5 course menu, though at times it could me more courses. Omakase means “I will leave it up to you” and this case you are leaving it up to the chef to serve you his fine dining new world Japanese dishes.

Kinpira obo

Shashimi Ceviche

I loved my tasting dinner recently which started off with the Kinpira obo (burdock) a perfect amuse before the stunning Shashimi Ceviche – blue fin tuna, like Managatsuo (bonito type of fish), daikon, radish, Asian pear, citrus, and yuzu dressing.

Saba Salad

Tomato Caprese

Sake

The Saba Salad with sea urchin and miso mustard dressing was very good, this was followed by the unique take on a Tomato Caprese, here with Maejina (white fish), topped with Brie cheese; on top of eggplants, dash and soy sauce. I enjoyed some sake with my meal, this one was served warm.

Alberta Beef

Nigiri

Alberta Beef marinated in Japanese sweet miso, with beans, enoki mushrooms, Shimiji mushrooms, cauliflower was next which was followed by an outstanding selection of Nigiri, on the plate, Japanese cod, gold eye snapper, ren Ko snapper, managatso, Japanese flounder, blue fin tuna.

Honey Pana Cotta

Dessert was a simple Japanese style Honey Pana Cotta for a perfect finish to a wonderful tasting menu.

This is a restaurant where you are going to want to take a loved one, treat a friend or your business associates. I would suggest making a reservation and noting any allergies or dislikes, then be ready to savour each and every course.
