L’Éclair de Génie Opening

Yesterday I was fortunate to attend the media preview tasting of this a Paris, France-based pastry shop that specializes in éclairs. This is the first North American location on Vancouver’s fashionable Robson street, and they are hopeful to open more boutiques as they expand.

chef Christophe Adam

Renowned chef Christophe Adam was on hand to welcome everyone and tell the story of his éclair shop, I had a chance to interview him as well, watch for that here soon.

Christophe has dedicated the last 14 years to creating a chic snacking version of the French pastry landmark, the éclair, and the store now offers over 260 flavours. L’Éclair de Génie is adored worldwide with 25 boutiques throughout France, Japan, Hong Kong, Italy, and now here in Canada.

From the eclairs that I tasted, my favourites were the:

No.144 matcha bamboo (matcha cream and white chocolate); No.1 caramel beurre salé (salted caramel and mascarapone cream), and No.217 praliné noisette (caramel mascarpone cream, hazelnut praline, and caramelized hazelnuts).

Eclairs

Espresso Macchiatto

The Vancouver store is franchised and will featured 10 different flavours of eclairs all freshly made daily, they will also feature a couple new flavours each month. These pastries are long-john shaped, the shells are made from choux (light pastry dough) and filled with different flavours of cream or custard then decorated.

The shop also offers other L’Éclair de Génie products, including round croissant baked goods, chocolate bars, chocolate spreads, and a variety of chocolate bon bons. They also have a full beverage menu featuring hot and cold espresso beverages; and and a variety of imported teas.

L’Éclair de Génie is now open and located at 1210 Robson Street in downtown Vancouver.
