Comparisons and tasting of That’s Life Gourmet Sake and Sherry, lead by Margaux Leahelaine and Mariko Tajiri was a great way to learn about some of their fine Sherry as well as Sake from their portfolio. Aged sakes have a lot of complexity and character in different directions, depending on the length of time, temperature and intention. 5 year and 10 year old sakes from Kirakucho and a vintage bottling from Yamagata Masamune. In this guided tasting they explained the various notes of each as they were paired with olives, almonds, cheeses and charcuterie!

My favourite of the Sherry’s was the El Maestro Sierra Cream Sherry (15 years old oloroso) followed by the El Maestro Sierra Fino Sherry (5 year old oloroso).  Of the Sake’s we tried, my favourite was the Kirakucho Silver Junmai dafginjo (10 years old) followed by the Kirakucho Gold Daiginjo (5 years old).
