A wonderful night celebrating the food and culture of Thailand was hosted by Vancouver Magazine and Sala Thai restaurant a couple of weeks ago. It was a delicious night featuring five local Thai restaurants in a culinary cook-off who each cooked a dish based on the ingredient they were given.

Chef Parinya Lopston of Ban Chok Dee made a vegetarian trio of delight, that was beautifully plated. Crunchy noodles topped with a banana blossom avocado mixture with caviar, khao soi curried rice balls with macadamia and taro chips.

I loved the delicious Thai Iced Coffee in a bottle made by Sala Thai which provided great non-alcoholic refreshment.

The Chefs team from Sawasdee Thai Restaurant such a flavourful dish Larb Shrimp dish.  Larb goong croquettes with minced prawns, mint, parsley, green onions and rice powder. Topped with Isan sauce.

The chefs team of Sala Thai presented a Pork Rib dish which won the people’s choice dish of the night. Khao Yum Short Braised Ribs with Southern Thai Rice Salad.

Throughout the event Thai dancers graced the stage performing their traditional dances, the event was emceed by Max Fawcett, the Editor in chief of Vancouver Magazine. This is an event not to miss if it takes place again.
