Last night I previewed the Dine Out menu that Chef Nourdine Majdoubi created. They are offering a stellar 3 course $28 prix fixe as their dine out menu and this was one of my picks in this years festival. I tried each of the course offerings from the appetizers, entrees and desserts.
1st Course Appetizers
Morocco West Trio
Hummus, zaalouk and lentil salad with house-made bread
Wild Salmon Cake
Pineapple salsa, pomegranate vinaigrette and balsamic reduction
2nd Course Entrees
Roasted Chermoula Chicken
Saffron couscous, red wine braised cabbage, carrots, squash and raisin jus
Moroccan Cauli-Taktouka
Cauliflower, tomatoes, sweet peppers, chickpeas, olives and herbed-gnocchi
Ras-el-hanout Braised Lamb Shank
Tomato rice stuffed roasted pepper, edamame puree and sauce chasseur
3rd Course Dessert
Sweet Rice Bastilla
Cinnamon, raisins, almonds, rosewater crème anglaise
Persimmon Crumble
Homemade ice cream, mulled wine syrup
My take:
I loved both of the appetizers presented, each were flavourful and offered dishes well suited to the Moroccan theme. My favourite of the entrees was the Roasted Chermoula Chicken with the delicious couscous and vegetables combo, followed by the vegetarian cauliflower forward Moroccan Cauli-Taktouka. Of the desserts, my favourite was the Sweet Rice Bastilla and it was the perfect finish to an outstanding meal.
