Joy of Feeding 2013

On Sunday June 30th, I spent the afternoon at a glorious event, the Joy of Feeding! This was the 2nd year that I had attended this wonderful event out of its 3 year history and  the setting at UBC Farm couldn’t have been more suited to this one of a kind event that featured 16 multi-cultural home cooks set-up under the tents and serving up their recipe of choice to the hundreds of people in attendance.

Prawn and Squid Sambal (Malaysia) from Patricia Low (on the right)

Olivier Salad (Russia) from Anya Levykh and her mother Ella.

Hot Smoked Salmon (Salish) from Angelina Froste (on the right) with her daughter)

Jerk Chicken (Caribbean) from Alfredo Perdomo

Mozzarella, Nut Butter and Jelly Pizza

I loved the Prawn and Squid Sambal (Malaysia) from Patricia Low; as well as the Olivier Salad (Russia) from Anya Levykh and her mother Ella. I also loved the Hot Smoked Salmon (Salish) from Angelina Froste; the Jerk Chicken (Caribbean) from Alfredo Perdomo; and the Mozzarella, Nut Butter and Jelly Pizza(Vancouver) from John Jandera.

Lentil and Bulgher Koftes (Turkey) from Eylem Sonmez

Cochinita Pibil Tacos (Mexico) from Graciela Nunez (on the left)

A couple of other delicious savoury dishes were the Lentil and Bulgher Koftes (Turkey) from Eylem Sonmez; and the Cochinita Pibil Tacos (Mexico) from Graciela Nunez.

Spice Pudding (Lebanon)

Chocolate Walnut Cake (Serbia) from Jelena Vukmirica. (on the right)

Chocolate Walnut Cake (Serbia) from Jelena Vukmirica.

Sugar Pie (French Canadian) from Genevieve & Patrick Robert

Shortbread (Scotland) from Laura McMurran.

My favourite of the desserts was the Spice Pudding (Lebanon) from Majid Khoury which tied with the Chocolate Walnut Cake (Serbia) from Jelena Vukmirica. This was followed by the delicious Sugar Pie (French Canadian) from Genevieve & Patrick Robert and lastly the Shortbread (Scotland) from Laura McMurran.

Along with the delicious food and drink , was music that featuring a Mariachi band and a dj who had the crowd dancing in the sun.  Guests received a cookbook upon entry that featured recipes of the dishes from all of the 16 cooks.

It was a foodie extravaganza and it was wonderful, organizers behind this ever successful event were Meeru Dhalwala, and Mary Mackay along with an amazing team. Proceeds of the event were going to support UBC Farm.
