Celebrate Year of the Tiger at Wild Rice

Andrew Wong & Chef Todd Bright

Wild Rice has been offering a special Chinese New Year menu since they opened over 9 years ago and each year they have created wonderful menus. This year they will be celebrating the Year of the Tiger and they have created a wonderful menu which I had the pleasure to taste last night.  This menu is a modern take on the concept of a traditional Chinese New Year’s banquet and I loved each and every course, such unique presentation and intriguing flavours.

The four course menu is $40 per person (not including taxes or gratuity).

Here is the menu, starting with the 1st course:

Tiger Stripe Sui Mai – an open face dumpling of crab, sloping hills pork and northern bc shrimp

Tiger Stripe Sui Mai

For the 2nd course:

Tiger Roll – red curry, cloud ear mushrooms, marinated tofu rolled in a delicate rice wrap

Tiger Roll

For the 3rd course:

Tiger Beer-marinated Bison Flat Steak – spice ‘tiger’s bite’ scallop dumplings, chinese pickles, ying yang gratin

Tiger Beer-marinated Bison Flat Iron Steak

For the 4th course:

Lucky Nian Gao – steamed sticky rice cake filled with red bean & almonds, anise syrup drizzle and white chocolate coins lycee

Lucky Nian Gao

For only an additional $20 you can enhance your dining experience with a Wine Flight of 4 different wines that are paired with each of the courses.

I suggest you reserve your table early as they are going to sell out, this year Chinese New Year falls during the same time as the Olympics. The Year of the Tiger menu will be offered nightly between February 13 – February 28, 2010.
