I recently had the opportunity to tour this newly opened commissary which is located in Burnaby, noted to be the largest of it’s kind in Canada. There has been quite a shortage in commissary space in Vancouver for quite sometime, already as I understand YVR Prep has received a large number of applications of businesses wanting to secure space for their various food operations.
This new facility is a kitchen rental space + food hub for food service producers that need an official place to produce their food and drink products
Run by Josh McWilliams, Ryan Mackay and Jason Wong, these enterprising guys sought the place to build this commissary to solve a shortage of commissary space in the city.
YVR Prep is ideal for: chefs, bakers, caterers, farmers market vendors, food truck operators, food hobbyists, as well as nonprofits and co-ops.
This is going to be a huge post for food entrepreneurs who have the ideas with no way of implementing those ideas, now many of those dreams can be realized.
The commissary features a Commercial-grade kitchen vents/hoods, grease traps, and floor drainage; Multiple prep stations to allow companies to work simultaneously; Ample walk-in refrigeration and freezer space for storage; Dry goods storage; Stainless steel counters, sinks, and shelving; Large communal hot cook line with: 20-burner range, deep fryers, tilt kettle, convection ovens, tilt skillet, and more; Commercial dishwasher; Event space, coworking/meeting spaces and much more!
