Last month celebrity chefs Stefan Hartmann of Bauhaus Restaurant and Chef Vikram Vij of My Shanti by Vij’s collaborated with an incredible Bau-llywood German-Indian cuisine collaboration dinner. Held at My Shanti in Surrey, this sold-out dinner was truly a one of a kind experience, each of the courses were paired with a BC wine and many of the principles of the participating wineries were present to enjoy the delicious food paired with their wines. Each of the chefs took turns presenting a course, Vikram prepared the German dishes while Stefan prepared the Indian dishes.

Amuse Bouche was a variety of Indian snacks prepared by Chef Stefan, paired with the Okanagan Crushpad Narrative XC Method

Indian Snacks

1st course:

Chicken liver pate

2nd course:

Scallops with cauliflower & cumin pakoras

3rd course:

Chicken Tandoor, eggplant and yogurt

Chicken Tandoor, eggplant and yogurt by Chef Stefan; paired with the Kanazawa Wines Taku Syrah; this was my favorite dish and pairing of the night.

4th course:

5th course:

Passion fruit, coconut, purple curry

Passion fruit, coconut, purple curry by Chef Stefan paired with the Kalala Wines Icewine ; this was another incredible dish, Stefan mentioned that he specifically imported the purple curry from Germany which was crumbled on top of the puck shaped passion fruit ice cream that was encased in chocolate.

6th course:

Sacher Torte with Cherries

Sacher Torte with Cherries and whipped cream by Chef Vikram Vij paired with the Kalala Wines Icewine; I could have ate the entire platter of this delicious traditional Austrian Sacher Torte.

What an amazing team, this collaboration dinner featuring two of the country’s finest chefs, was one memorable meal, you can visit each of their respective restaurants to enjoy their notable cuisine; Bauhaus Restaurant is located in Gastown in Vancouver while My Shanti by Vij’s is located in Surrey.
