Ravenswood Winemakers Dinner at the Flying Pig

Joel Peterson

I recently attended the Ravenswood winemaker dinner at the Flying Pig in Yaletown. The dinner featured Winemakers Joel Peterson who talked about the wines that were paired with the meal as well as his portfolio. Since I am a huge fan of the food at The Flying Pig as well as Executive Chef Erik Heck I knew we were in for a treat and adding Ravenswood wines made for a memorable evening.

We all enjoyed the Ravenswood VB Chardonnay 2010 along with the Ravenswood VB Zinfandel 2009 before the meal was served, followed by the Sangiacomo Chardonnay as everyone was seated.

Now on to dinner and the pairings!

Quadra island honey mussels. Tomzito corn and speck broth. Matchstick frites.

Comments:

I loved the Quadra island honey mussels with the Matchstick frites to soak up the delicious broth which was well paired with both of the zinfandels. Both the Duo of vension, bacon wrapped venison striploin with the Parsnip puree and Wild cherries course along with the Braised organic beef short rib, Aged Canadian cheddar mashed potatoes and Dry Creek Valley bone marrow jus were outstanding courses that were very well paired with the Old Hill Zinfandel 2008 and the Teldeschi Zinfandel 2009 respectively.
