Eating and Exploring in Mexico City

Had a wonderful visit to Mexico City where I finally had a chance to visit the National Museum of Anthropology, spend time with friends, do some more exploring and visit some great restaurants.

Some of the eating highlights included:

ABRASAMAR @abrasamarmx  is a contemporary Mexican seafood venue and oyster bar tucked into the vibrant Roma Norte neighborhood. Known for celebrating the fresh, rich flavors of the Gulf of Mexico, it delivers an authentic yet elevated coastal dining experience right in the heart of the capital. The menu highlights beautifully prepared raw oysters, seasonal catches, and traditional marinades that capture the essence of regional maritime cooking. Its chic, relaxed atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for extended weekend lunches or sophisticated evening dinners paired with crisp white wines. It is.a great find in the Roma Norte neighbourhood near my hotel for the outstanding Tuna taco, Tuna Tostada and the Guava and cheese empanada.

Voraz @vorazzzzzzzzz has quickly earned wide acclaim in Roma Sur, thanks to a bold, high-flavor gastronomic vision crafted by a kitchen team with roots in globally renowned establishments like Noma. It effortlessly balances an unpretentious, trendy neighborhood vibe with a culinary edge that has captured the attention of the Michelin guide. Guests are treated to an inventive menu featuring rich bone marrow, unique green ceviches, and smokey mole chicken, all meant to be shared. The venue’s lively music and exceptional cocktail bar make it a standout destination for an elevated, high-energy night out. One of my favorite meals at this Michelin starred restaurant was having the delicious Guajillo Chili Fish with blue corn tortillas and the Chocolate Tamal for dessert.

Maizajo @maizajo operates as both an artisanal tortilla shop and a multi-tiered culinary haven in the Condesa district, entirely centered around the preservation and celebration of heirloom Mexican corn. On the ground level, visitors flock to a lively, standing-room-only taco bar where they can watch chefs press tortillas and slice fillings like succulent duck or savory rib-eye. Upstairs, the property transitions into a beautifully designed, sit-down dining room offering a more curated exploration of traditional Mexican cooking. This dual concept showcases the deep versatility of native maize, seamlessly bridging casual street culture with upscale dining. It is a very good Michelin awarded Mexican restaurant where it’s all about their house-made corn tortillas and more; I had the Manea (corn tamale with fish) and the Panucho (blue corn tortilla filled with beans) topped with pickled turkey, unique and delicious.

Mendl Delicatessen @mendlmx delivers an exceptionally executed, classic New York City deli experience directly to the Hipódromo area near Parque México. Step inside and you will find an elegant, sun-drenched space lined with lush plants and high ceilings, creating a modern yet comforting atmosphere. The cornerstone of the establishment is its commitment to scratch baking, churning out fresh everything bagels, house-cured corned beef, and massive pastrami sandwiches. It has quickly become one of the city’s most beloved weekend brunch institutions, often drawing bustling lines of locals, expats, and travelers. It is one of my favourite spots from my last cdmx visit for a Flat white and their delicious Matzo ball soup and also for their Whitefish bagel sandwich. Green Rhino @greenrhino_mx is a trendy, highly buzzed-about artisanal bakery and eatery situated in the bustling Roma Norte neighborhood. The venue has become famous among pastry enthusiasts for its long morning lines and exceptional baked goods, featuring creations developed in collaboration with acclaimed international bakers. Beyond its spectacular golden croissants and sourdough loaves, the space boasts a bright, aesthetically conscious environment that draws a stylish crowd. It serves as an excellent starting point for exploring the neighborhood, offering premium sweet and savory treats to go or to enjoy on-site. This is a very popular sourdough based bakery where the line moved quickly, I got a morning bun to go. Rojo Bistrot @rojobistrot brings a classic, bohemian European charm to the tree-lined streets of Condesa, functioning as a trusted, homey neighborhood standard. The restaurant thrives on an unpretentious, welcoming atmosphere meant to make guests feel immediately comfortable, whether they are dropping in for a quick lunch or an intimate dinner. Its menu focuses on comforting French bistro classics, fresh salads, savory crepes, and a carefully assembled wine list that encourages slow, relaxed dining. The outdoor sidewalk seating is especially popular, encapsulating the effortless, romantic lifestyle that defines the area. This was a great spot for a catchup dinner with my friend Carlos and I had the delicious Moroccan lentil soup and the Grilled seabass and then for dessert shared the Apple Tatin with Carlos.

Qūentin Café @quentincafemx Juárez Click to open side panel for more information is a stylish bistro and specialty coffee house nestled in the historic Juárez district. During the day, the café features a relaxed, productive vibe with reliable Wi-Fi, premium espresso drinks, and artisanal matcha options that make it a favorite for remote workers and creative professionals. Its kitchen serves up incredibly well-reviewed breakfast items, including comforting chilaquiles and fresh tomato bagels. As daylight fades, the venue smoothly transitions into a cozy neighborhood hub perfect for casual evening drinks and intimate light dinners. This was another great spot for a catchup with my friend Marco over an Espresso & Tonic at one of my favourite cafes in Roma Norte.

There are many more great restaurants and cafes in the city to discover which I look forward to do on a future visit.
