In the evolution of Parallel 49 which created a solid foundation of exciting and tasty local brews, they recently added a street kitchen to serve up great comfort food to match their beer program. Chef Jason Harper is at the helm creating some delicious eats, he sources many of his ingredients locally adds a creative spin and cooks it all on a Food Truck that sits inside the tasting room. It is basically their kitchen on a cool looking food truck that not only provides a fun ambiance, it also makes it easy to serve the dishes to guests.
Over a couple of visiits I have taken a run through their menu. Loved the addictive Fried Cauliflower done up in szechuan, toasted sesame, picked carrot, green onion, cilantro; as well as the Duck Corn Dogs filled with braised duck, corn bread batter, beer mustard, Japanese Mayo, lotus chips and fried popcorn.
The Tuna Kale Salad was fresh and delightful with seared albacore, baby kale, miso, sesame, sea beans, panko; the Braised Chicken Quesadilla was tasty with crema, pico de gallo, avocado, cilantro, chips; and the Fried Chicken & Waffles was topped with delicious buttermilk fried chicken, buffalo sauce, buttermilk powder, pickled carrots.
Desserts take the comfort food focus to heart, there is the house-made Beaver Tail, deep fried dough, warm chocolate ganache, hazelnut, house made ice cream; and then there are Mom’s Cookies, made by Chef Jason Harper and his mom, these chocolate chip cookies are topped with a dash of course salt and marshmallow meringue pieces; both went down well with my favourite Parallel 49 brew Seedspitter Watermelon Wit.
