It was another glorious day at the 6th annual Joy of Feeding event that I attended on Saturday June 24 at UBC Farm. This is an incredible food loving event that featured 13 multi-cultural home cooks serving up their recipe of choice to the sold-out crowd of people in attendance.
I loved the Patacón con hogao (Flattened and Fried Plantain with Seasoning) by Sylvia Heredia and Melissa Laura Guzman (Colombia); as well as the Khoresh-e Fesenjan (Pomegranate Walnut and Beef Meatball Stew) by Fereshteh Amin and Golnaz Fakhari (Iran); and the Creole Chicken Stew by Bruce and Denyse (Trinidad and Tobago).
Loved the Lemon Meringue Pie by Murray Mollard and Juliette Mollard-Thibault (Canada); enjoyed the Eggplant and Carrot Salad by Elena Yugai (Russian Korean); along with the Bobó de Camarão (shrimp) by Fernanda Souza and Marcia Bratanich (Brazil).
Enjoyed the Beef Rendang by Davery Soufyan and Yati Achjadi (Indonesia); followed by the Fatayer Sabanigh (Spinach Pastry) by Ali Rahme and Barbar Moawad (Syria); and the Eguzi Pudding (Fish and Egusi Seed Stew) by Martina Yabekova (Cameroon).
The Chorizo, Cod, and Chickpea Stew by Lucia and Raquel Milosavljevic (Portugal) was flavourful; as was the Pak Jam Gai – a chicken stew with preserved vegetables, mandarin, ginger, garlic, dried plum, and abalone by Jackie and Jay Jones (China-Jamaica); followed by the Coconut Cabbage Salad with Chutney Sandwiches by Lucia Maria Costa and Isabelle Pinto (Goa); ended on a sweet note with the Chocolate Sticky Toffee Pudding by Amanda Bates and Lucy Dibdin (United Kingdom).
There was musical entertainment to go along with all the delicious food and drink. Plus Whole Foods market had a fun Build your own Ice Tea booth featuring Wize Monkey Tea. UBC Food Services and Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts students assisted with the cooking of the incredible dishes; guided by these home cooks.
It was another foodie extravaganza and it was wonderful, proceeds of the event were going to support UBC Farm.
