Last week I attended a wonderful dinner at Hopcott Farms in Pitt Meadows which was the perfect setting to showoff their recent expansion of their store and facilities. This unique dinner featured farmers and local producers products from the Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge area.
The sit down dinner featured multiple dishes featuring their meats as well as other area products, starting off with a few appetizers.
Charcuterie with local cheeses and Hopcott meats
Potato Corn Chowder
Miniature Yorkshire Puddings with Shaved Hopcott beef and horseradish aioli
I enjoyed tasting the Old Dog Altbier from Yellow Dog Brewing Co. which happens to be the Tri Cities’ first craft brewery. Located in Port Moody, they are a family-run brewery focused on producing high quality locally crafted beer.
On to the main course, Family-Style Platters featuring many of their wonderful Paninis (Turkey & Hopcott Cranberry & Smoked Applewood Gouda and Seasoned Hopcott Roast Beef), and Hopcott’s Beef and Onion Meatballs.
Pulled Hopcott Beef Sliders
Seasoned Wedge Fries
Seasonal vegetables and Kale Salad
With the mains, I enjoyed tasting the Backyard Wines Syrah 2013, a local winery that offers blended and bubbly wines from 100% BC Grapes. They grow their own grapes in their Langley vineyard and complement those with fruit from the Fraser Valley and South Okanagan.
For Dessert, they served Old Fashioned Milkshakes made with ice cream from nearby Krauss Berry Farm along with Mom Hopcott’s homemade fudge bar which was a delicious ending to the feast.
They are a 3rd generation family run butcher shop located on their family farm, committed to bringing quality, local, farm fresh products direct to your table. From their hormone free beef, to local produce, to baked goods and cheeses, the friendly and knowledgeable staff can help you choose healthy meals for your family & friends.
The secret to their meat is about keeping it simple and ensuring a top quality AAA Grade. As opposed to other meat producers that cryovac and wet-age their beef, their meat is hung to dry-age a minimum of 21-28 days. The result is the tastiest, most tender cuts of beef that will have your taste buds thanking you.
Last December, Hopcott Meats celebrated a new expansion. The retail and production area now totals 13,000 square feet, providing a variety of fresh meats, an expanded retail section of local foods, healthy “pick up and go’ dinners, a casual bistro focused on locally-sourced and foraged ingredients, cooking and butchery classes, and a full-service coffee bar.
Open seven days a week, customers are invited for lunch and dinner (and soon breakfast) while taking in panoramic views of the farm. Hopcott Meats is dedicated to providing an authentic ‘farm to table’ experience, complemented by hand-crafted ‘old school’ beverages and decorative touches that will take guests back to a simpler time. Soon, local artisan craft beers and wine will also be available.
Hopcott Premium Meats is located at 18385 Old Dewdney Truck Road in Pitt Meadows. Find them on twitter @hopcottfarms
