Executive Chef Ryan Bissell recently toured me through the completed and new, Alma Mater Society of UBC Vancouver (AMS) on the UBC campus. The building, the AMS Student Nest, is an impressive 250,000 square feet spread over five storeys and located in the heart of the Vancouver campus.
Eight new restaurants opened earlier this summer including FlipSide, Grand Noodle Emporium, Palate, Peko Peko, PieRSquared, The Pit, and Uppercase. One more restaurant is scheduled to open in early September, that is Perch located on the top floor and it’s going to be as fine dining as you are going to get in this casual setting.
I had an opportunity to taste my way around some of the eateries in this impressive building.
From the stunning architectural elements to each menu selection at the restaurants, cafes and catering, this building is all about sustainability, innovation and accessibility.
100% student owned and operated, the AMS Nest is their amazing new building. Ringing in at nearly $108 million dollars with multiple outlets and tenanted spaces, it is a multifunctional building with kitchens that chefs dream about and beautifully flexible meeting spaces. Aiming for a LEED Platinum certification, it is sustainable from top to bottom. See my previous tour during construction last year.
