Joe Fortes Seafood & Chop House played host to the Official Umbrella Launch Party for Vancouver Firefighters’ Charitable Society and Community First Foundations on November 5, 2014. They raised $20,000 at the party and another $10,000 the next morning! The money raised will benefit VFCS’s Snack Program and Community First Foundation’s (CFF) Backpack Buddies program.
Guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres prepared by Executive Chef Wayne Sych and his team, as well as sips of several fine wines. Breakfast Television’s Dawn Chubai was the Emcee and Auctioneer for the evening, there was a pipe band and a pianist playing throughout the night.
Vancouver Firefighters’ Charitable Society: The Vancouver Firefighters’ Charitable Society (VFCS) is an organization operated entirely by firefighter employees of Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (VFRS). As an all-charities charity, the VFCS is proud to partner with many other charitable organizations throughout the Lower Mainland to provide presence, volunteers and support at their own events. In addition, VFCS-owned programs provide financial support to a number of organizations, meaning that single donations go a long way in the community.
Community First Foundation: Community First Foundation is all about the kids. In 2012, it came to our attention that there were children, right in our backyard, who were spending the weekend hungry. This led to the founding of our flagship program Backpack Buddies. Since then, we have been committed to not only finding a solution to the problem but providing the education that will sustain the solution.
Thank you to our photographer Michelle Hondl for capturing the night so well (see more photos here).
