First Taste of Dante Sandwich

A great new addition to downtown Vancouver’s Robson Street, this Italian sandwich café features Schiacciata a Tuscan bread that’s large and thin, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfect for making Italian sandwiches. They serve these cold or grilled, they also have an arugula salad, cannoli and soft drinks.

This new eatery is owned by Dom and Frank Morra, the same brothers that also owns Via Tevere Pizzeria, Straight Outta Brooklyn, the Saltimbocca Truck, Soccavo and Don’t Argue Pizzeria.

The menu will include seven signature sandwiches made with fresh-baked slabs of schiacciata bread topped with Mediterranean-inspired ingredients. Available for take-out or dine-in, artisanal sammies will be piled high with an irresistible combination of cured Italian meats like prosciutto, salami and mortadella; stracciatella cheese; pickled and roasted vegetables such as eggplant, zucchini and red pepper; and gourmet spreads infused with true, basil and fiery Bomba sauce.

Guests will also be able to enjoy three grilled sandwich options – including an elevated formaggi grilled cheese made with mozzarella, provolone and taleggio.

I had a chance to try a few of the tasty items, having the Americano sandwich that features roast turkey, stracciatella cheese, potato chip crunch, basil spread, semi dried tomato, and arugula. The iL Veg features eggplant in tomato sauce, zucchini, roasted red pepper, stracciatella cheese, basil spread, taralli crunch, pickled green tomato, and arugula. I also had a Pistachio Cannoli for dessert.
