First Taste of Gastronomy Gastown

It’s all about delicious Napoletana pizza and other Italian dishes with a twist at this recently opened spot in the Gastown neighbourhood of Vancouver. Owned by business partners, Sahand Bigloo and Kiarash Tarikhi.

In addition to pizza, the rest of the menu features a selection of cocktails, wine and beer along with appetizers, salads and main dishes and desserts.

Chef Selim Louis Dehmane leads the kitchen and is the master behind their outstanding pizza where he does a 3 day fermentation process for pizza which makes for a light crust that is easy to digest.

I have tried several dishes, loved the Zucchini Mosaic Raviolo with herbed ricotta, basil puree, tomato conserva; along with the Broccoli Caesar with roasted and pickled broccoli, arugula, anchovy dressing, garlic croutons, lots of parmesan.

The Beef Tartare has a creative spin in presentation with rice crisps, black garlic and charcoal mayo, crispy garlic, cucumber.

The Squash Lasagna was well executed with mozzarella, squash puree, roasted squash, preserved lemon cream, toasted pistachios and I liked that it didn’t even need the noodles. The Braised Beef is a delicious main dish with Red Wine Sugo, Fire Roasted Fingerlings & Mushrooms and finished with Onions, Fresh Horseradish & Chives.

Now on to the pizzas, had the Wen Lambo? It’s a decadent pizza with lobster carpaccio, caviar, preserved lemon cream, creme fraiche, fried capers and herb salad. I also loved the Feature pizza “Nduja Tonight” with nduja, fior di latte , basil, tomato, garlic, red onion, Buratta. I also had one of their vegetarian pies, the 24 Carrot Gold Pizza with gold leaf, carrot purée, pickled carrot, fior di latte, basil pesto.

On to the desserts which are as creative as the pizzas, loved the Italian Baked Alaska with lemon sorbetto, creme fraiche cake, torched Italian meringue; as well as the Warm Chocolate Chip Cookie – an Adult version of Milk and Cookies — with Amaro milk punch for dipping.
