Sunset, Snacks, and Sustainability: Exploring Vancouver’s Vegan Night Market

If you think night markets in Vancouver are strictly about meat skewers and crowded parking lots, it is time to update your summer bucket list. The Vegan Night Market Canada’s first and only 100% plant-based night market has officially taken over some of the city’s best waterfront spots.

Whether you are a strict vegan or a curious omnivore who just loves outdoor food truck culture, this market has evolved into one of the most vibrant, laid-back community events of the summer.

There was a great mix of food, drink, fashion, and other vendors the night that I visited in late June.

As a non-vegan, I appreciate mixing in some plant-based dishes whenever possible. I loved the Thai Eggplant from @babbdthaifoodtruck and the Chocolate Babka from @plantedlovefoodtruck and also tasted some of the @hltheesoda and then enjoyed their Ginger soda.

Here is what you need to know about the 2026 summer season and why you should catch the next one.

The Vibe: Ocean Views & Acoustic Tunes

Unlike a typical bustling market, the summer editions of the Vegan Night Market alternate between two beautiful locations: the grassy expanse of Trout Lake and the beachfront of Locarno Beach.

The atmosphere feels less like a strict commercial market and more like a massive, breezy backyard party. The organizers have curated an evening where you can genuinely unwind. You can browse local makers, grab dinner, and sit on the grass while acoustic music sets transition into a live DJ as the sun goes down.

True to Vancouver style, the events are completely family-friendly and pet-friendly. Bring a blanket, a sweater for when the ocean breeze kicks in, and maybe even your dog.

The absolute best part about this market is that you don’t have to check a single ingredient label. Everything is 100% plant-based. Local chefs and food trucks pack the venues, serving everything from innovative comfort foods to high-end pastries.

While food trucks draw the biggest lines, the market also features local craft drink vendors and unique snack pop-ups. You can grab a refreshing locally made beverage, find a spot near a beach bonfire, or just wander through the stalls with a sweet treat.
