It’s all about Globally inspired cuisine inspired by the travels of Executive Chefs Kanwardeep Ahluwalia & Chef Baldeep Singh.
Bar Asra’s interior reflects a modern, organic aesthetic that evokes Vancouver’s natural beauty with lush foliage amongst a mix of cozy booths, communal tables, and intimate bar seating.
The space is a breath of fresh air for the South Granville neighborhood where it is bright and has plants throughout, you will find the bar at the back where the bartender is creating inventive cocktails and mocktails. General Manager Johann Hart has a lot of experience working in fine-dining restaurants around the city which he has brought to the table so to speak here at Bar Asra. The team sees service as an extension of the storytelling behind each dish, inviting guests to feel welcomed and connected through food, flavour, and shared discovery.
Lawrence joined me and we started off our dining adventure with the beautiful and delicious Ahi tuna crudo and the Stone fruit chaat; paired these dishes with a few of the Mocktails, the Ghia Gimlet, the Margarita and Paloma.
From there our journey took our taste buds for the stunning Confit Rainbow carrots, followed by the Lentil Cake and Chicken skewers.
Steamed Cornbread is a unique dish that isn’t anything like you would have envisioned cornbread to be, and I suggest that you ask your server to explain. The Courgette Kefta is one of a couple of vegan dishes, I love how it is done with zucchini noodles.
Both the Chicken Verde with its delicious coconut Thai curry and rice cake; as well as the Sea Bass with grilled cabbage, pan-fried gnocchi and a Goan curry sauce are outstanding.
We went with one dessert to end the beautifully crafted meal having the delicious Mexican inspired Tres Leche.
This is a great spot to dine or have a pre-show drink before heading over to the Stanley Theatre nearby and as they are open until 11pm you can head over after the show for some delicious bites.
