I recently spent a week test driving the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Noir SUV around Vancouver while visiting some restaurants as well as a farm.
Headed over to one of my favourite new bakeries in the Fraserhood neighbourhood, Mish Mish Bakery and Café for their delicious Coconut Cake and an Iced Cardamom Americano one afternoon.
The next night drove to Olympic Village for dinner at Johnny Fox’s Irish Pub which has been at that location for a couple of years. Lawrence joined me and he had a Guinness while I had a Ginger beer.
I loved the Yorkies with mashed potatoes as well as the Curry rice bowl with tofu. We also had the Santa Fe salad and Chicken fillet roll that came with chips.
The Eclipse Cross seats the front and back passengers comfortably, with a livable back seat and 663 L (23.4 cubic feet) of space in the cargo area. An 8-inch infotainment screen includes satellite radio capability. Automatic climate control and heated from seats are also standard across the line.
The next evening some of my friends joined me for dinner at Pasta Polo in Coquitlam. We started with their delicious all veal Polo meatballs and some complimentary rolls and garlic oil.
We then shared their Calamari, Spinach, apple, and Brie, and Caprese salad for starters. Next it was their delicious Chicken Genovese with spinach linguini, Roasted Lamb ragu mafalda, baked Eggplant parmigiana and linguine pesto and the Veal Scallopini with fettuccine alfredo.
Known for their 36 hour fermented pizza dough and their brick oven, we had a couple of pizzas they spicy Curry chicken pizza and their Primavera pizza. We finished with a few of their desserts, my favourites were the Tiramisu, New York Cheesecake followed by their Banokie Pie.
The next day I drove to South Richmond to the Steveston area to visit Athiana Acres Farm. A 30 acre, tree-lined property nestled into the corner of Richmond BC, next to Steveston Village, rooted on Unceeded Musqueam, Coast Salish Territory. Daniel Garfinkel is the head farmer who has planted many crops of vegetables this year, he is at the helm of this journey to treat this land with respect, work with the land, and facilitate in bringing it back into ecological balance and radiance. While there I picked up some of their beautiful seasonal vegetables to do some cooking at home. The farm is open on weekends during the summer for the public to visit to purchase seasonal vegetables and flowers.
The next day I visited Gary’s on 12th in the South Granville neighbourhood where we had their 5 course tasting menu. We started off with their house-made Rye rolls with scallion butter and their pickled vegetables. The Gem Lettuce salad was next with greens from @athianaacres , followed by the Kanpachi Crudo.
Halibut was next, which was outstanding, served with english peas, mousseline and creme fraiche, followed by the Pork Collar.
For dessert we had Chocolate Mousse that was divine with bergamot cream and almonds, plus a birthday candle for Lawrence. The service was impeccable and we loved the personal touches from the birthday card to the glowing candle.
It’s comfortable all around from the front passenger as well as those seated in the back. The suv makes the most of every kilometre so you can relish the joy of driving longer, for less. The 2024 Eclipse Cross is outfitted with an Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that provides smooth, powerful acceleration and excellent fuel efficiency. For hands-on control, the 8 speed Sports Mode creates the satisfying sensation of shifting gears, delivering power to the road.
