Outstanding in the Field, the pioneering table-to-farm dinner series, is returning to British Columbia for 2 dinners in July, arriving in yes! the vintage red bus, and bringing a whole new crew along for the adventure:
The first dinner will be held on July 20 at North Arm Farm in Pemberton with guest chef Kristian Eligh of Hawksworth
In 2015, OITF partnered once again with Chef Hawksworth, who sent Chef Kristian Eligh from his eponymous restaurant to do the honors at UBC Farm. This year Chef Kristian is coming out to North Arm Farm from Hawksworth on July 20, bringing it all full circle.
And the next day, on July 21, Chef Ryan Reed of Nomad, who cooked last year’s dinner at Pemberton, will be in the field kitchen at UBC Farm in Vancouver.
Founded by chef/artist Jim Denevan, Outstanding in the Field is the pioneer of pop-up dining. In the summer of 1999, Denevan came up with the idea of setting a table on a farm and inviting diners to an open-air meal in celebration of the farmer and the gifts of the land. He called it Outstanding in the Field, and since then Denevan has been the Johnny Appleseed of farm feasts.
At an Outstanding feast, you may find yourself sitting next to a local farmer who grew the greens, a fisherman who reeled in the fresh catch or a cheesemaker who separated curds from whey. Fellow diners at the long table may have traveled from across town or across the country. Many loyal “fieldheads” follow OITF as it travels, using an Outstanding dinner as the centerpiece for a visit to a place they’ve never been before or to experience a favorite spot from a fresh perspective.
