Yesterday I kicked off summer in style on the patio of Market at the Shangri-La Hotel downtown Vancouver, joined by my friend Kenji Maeda. Bubbles, Beats & Brunch takes places every weekend all summer long featuring an array of flavourful dishes, cocktails and live music with a dj spinning lively tunes.
Each table receives one of their delicious Cashew Sticky Buns to tempt the palate before brunching, a complimentary treat.
If you decide to go the cocktail route, and if you are a Caesars lover like my friend Kenji, you should choose make your own Caesar, a server brings around their trolley and you select whichever ingredients and garnishes you fancy.
Kenji had the Caesar ($18) while I had a Lemongrass Soda.
For our starters, I had the delicious and refreshing Orange Flower Yogurt Sorbet ($9) with Hibiscus and local fruits. Kenji had the Sucreme and Arugula Salad ($14) with avocado and spicy corn vinaigrette.
For our mains, I had the Korean Fried Chicken ($22) which had a sweet and spice kick along with house-made biscuits; Kenji had the Eggs Benedict ($19) with olive oil hollandaise and smoked salmon; then Kenji and I shared the outstanding Pandan Waffle ($16) topped with coconut cream, caramelized pineapple, and caramel sauce, so different and so good.
For dessert which is a must have anytime dining here, I had a Root Beer Float ($8) with bourbon-vanilla ice cream and Boylan’s root beer making for quite the frothy experience; Kenji had a scoop of the Grapefruit Sorbet.
