First Taste of ZARAK by Afghan Kitchen

It’s all about elevated Afghan dishes and a beautiful dining room to match at this newly opened eatery on Main Street.

The space was designed by Simcic + Uhrich Architects and built by Merola Construction.

Owners Hassib Sarwari and Winnie Sun.

I’ve visited for dinner and enjoyed their Bolani, triangle shaped Afghani flatbread stuffed with potato and spices, served with chutneys; along with the Mantu Dumplings with spiced beef, onion, chaka, split pea.

Loved the Lamb Shank with kachaloo, potatoes, served with salat; I also tried the Chicken with, spiced potato, Afghan four spice served with asparagus.

For dessert the Rose Pannacotta with pistachio sponge, and pistachio, was a delicious creation by pastry chef Daniel Munoz; and I also loved the Shir Yakh, qaimaq, pistachio (yummy Afghan ice cream).

For a unique and refreshing mocktail, the Nangahar was a hit,- made of Granville Island tea company chai spice, almond orgeat, cardamom, honey and tonic water.

ZARAK by Afghan Kitchen is located at 2102 Main Street in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood of Vancouver, follow them on instagram @zarakvancouver current hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 5PM—10PM.
