Advice: Snag a spot by the open window on sunny day. Located inside the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Many of the dishes are ideal for sharing.

Cheese and Charcuterie Board

Seared Tuna Salad (front) & Crab Louie (back)

Pamplona Chorizo Pizza

BBQ Chicken Pizza

Buffalo Mozzarella

With one of the coolest patio’s in the city, this lounge is hidden off the beaten track awaiting your discovery. On a dry day you will often see the windows drawn and diners sitting at the tables that line the street with an open view looking outward. I visited for lunch the other day with my blogger friend Sean Neild to share some of their rather large dishes, we started off with the Cheese and Charcuterie Board – ($18 for 3 meats and 3 cheeses) that came with a selection of cheeses and meats served with house-made mustard, jam, chutney, and breads. Next we shared a couple of the lunch size salads, the delicious Seared Tuna Salad ($14) with b.c. albacore tuna, arugula, heirloom tomato and cucumber dressing; along with the Crab Louie ($14) dungeness crab, romaine lettuce, hard-boiled cage free egg, hot-house tomato, asparagus and louie dressing. We then shared 3 pizzas, my favourite was the Pamplona Chorizo Pizza ($16) with pistachios, pickled onions and ricotta; followed by my 2nd favourite BBQ Chicken Pizza ($16) all natural chicken, double smoked bacon, avocado and bbq sauce; lastly the Buffalo Mozzarella ($16) oven roasted tomatoes, confit garlic and basil this is their classic margarita pizza.

You will find a great selection from mid day thru late night of artisanal sandwiches, salads, pizza and shared plates along with an extensive selection of artisan cocktails, regional wines and craft beer. Their cocktails are creatively designed to highlight regional distilleries and fresh ingredients. Five draught handles feature the best in local breweries, and their wine program is VQA focused with selections ranging from established wineries to up-and-coming winemakers.

Bailey’s French Toast

Bella Coola

In the heart of Mt Pleasant, you’ll find a great spot for eating and lounging with friends as I did recently. My friend Kenji Maeda joined me for weekend brunch on Sunday morning, I had the Bailey’s French Toast ($10.50) served with side fruit and alder smoked bacon and Kenji had the Bella Coola Eggs Benny ($8.50) Wild smoked BC salmon, dill cream cheese, and capers.

The dinner menu is filled with Plates such as the Local Charcuterie Plate and the Artisan Cheese Plate which is ideal for sharing, there are also Small Plates and Large Plates with their popular Okanagan Stuffed Chicken filled with feta cheese, sundried tomatoes, and chorizo topped with fresh corn salsa. You will also find salads, thin crust pizzas and desserts rounding off the menu, there is the selection of lunch and brunch favourites to make your visit to Mt Pleasant shine!

Advice: Make reservations for eating in, call or visit for take-out.

Chicken Pesto Pizza special

Alla Panna

Sometimes it can take awhile to visit a long standing, popular eatery, in this case it’s taken me an eternity to visit this pizzeria which has been serving pizzas and pastas in the neighborhood for over 25 years. I’m happy that they are still going strong on the drive and that I was able to indulge in some of their pizza pie. The restaurant is hidden off the beaten track of the drive, situated in the back of the indoor shopping plaza where the chef’s making the pizzas in their open kitchen. I opted for take-out having their Chicken Pesto Pizza special along with their classic Alla Panna Pizza topped with mozzarella, quark and parmesan cheese. The pizzas come in 2 sizes, medium & large and you can chose from over 20 pizzas, there is also a good selection of pastas and sauces on offer along with popular favourite pasta specialities. You’ll also find appetizers, salads, soups and more rounding up the menu and I’m pretty sure you have either beat me to the punch or I hope you will be visiting soon.

CORDUROY RESTAURANT

Web: http://www.corduroyrestaurant.com/

Twitter: @Corduroylounge

Advice: Live events a few nights each week, call for details. Play area for kids.

Every once in awhile comes a restaurant that you may have missed which happened to be in your neighborhood for years. Although I don’t live in this neighborhood, I am guilty for not having visited until now. This is one of the places you are going to want to get too for cozy atmosphere, delish comfort food, great music and friendly service.

Prawn Cake

Chorizo and Guinness Jus Poutine

Spicy Lamb Sausage Pizza

Chocolate Raspberry Cake

I tried a few of their creations, starting off with the delish Prawn Cake ($12) in a coconut curry with mango chutney, rather than the usual crab cake offering, they stepped their dish up and make it with prawns. The Chorizo and Guinness Jus Poutine ($13) was next, made with Kennebec potatoes, Guinness Demi jus, Aged white cheddar, Mozzarella, Spicy chorizo, Truffle oil, Herbs and so very good. I then had the outstanding Spicy Lamb Sausage Pizza  ($14) topped with caramelized onion, goat cheese and mint pesto on a wholewheat rosemary and honey crust. Lastly I had a slice of their Chocolate Raspberry Cake to finish off this fine meal.

You’ll find a menu with a selection of pizzas which they are known for along with salads, paninis and more. On the drinks side of things, the cool bar is the perfect backdrop for that one of a kind cocktail you have been yearning for or that beer that goes so well with one of their pizzas.

The Parlour Restaurant Opening

Owners: Sean Holland, Paul Rivas and Chris Holland

Last night I attended the opening party of The Parlour Restaurant in Yaletown.

Anchoring the 3,400 foot dining space is a custom Woodstone pizza oven serving up a dozen types of addictive pizza.  Adjacent to this is a stunning, open concept kitchen serving signature parlour-style comfort food dishes (takeout and delivery to be offered).   The Parlour’s expanded menu includes plenty of unique items guaranteed to please any style and size of appetite and ranges from light bites, to share plates, to satisfying deli-style sandwiches.

The Parlour’s expansive lounge area features chocolate-hued leather booth seating, high-tops and a striking 20 foot-long reclaimed wood bar that emulates a giant cask.  This is all complimented by a well chosen rotation of Canadian beer on tap, extensive craft beer available by bottle, inventive cocktails and both wine by bottle, as well as seven varietals on tap.  Rounding out the vintage ‘parlouresque’ feel to the bar is a custom built DJ station that will be put to good use by Christopher Simpson of NDVR Events Thursday through Sunday.

#Swag Pizza

Yaletown Pizza

Guests ate tasters of the popular Salmon Tartare, Brocolli and Meatball Minis. I especially loved their pizzas tasting the Roasted, Yaletown, and my favourite Gold Member and #Swag.

Ontario-born, Vancouver-loving brother’s Sean and Chris Holland bring with them an intimate understanding of upscale-casual dining after having collectively worked with the Cactus Club organization for well-over a decade.  Sean spent nearly 4 years as Head Chef at the company’s flagship location with a proven track record of success.  Also hailing from Cactus Club; Chris is well versed in the various aspects of the restaurant industry with many years of experience – and bring with him s a unique sense of creativity and transferable skills to The Parlour’s management mix. Rounding out The Parlour’s management team is Paul Rivas who (with 18 years of experience) has all-but grown up in Vancouver’s restaurant industry and is Chef-trained.

The Parlour Restaurant, a new 100-seat restaurant and lounge in Yaletown open for full dinner service from 5PM until midnight daily.

Advice: The platters are great value, call ahead for take-out.

Pide Platter

Longing for authentic Turkish cuisine in the city, I have happened upon a family run spot that is making a selection of vegi and meat Pide along with other traditional specialties. Having visited a couple of times, I’m quite fond of their Pide which is quite different (served flat then topped as opposed to being served filled with air from the oven) than I had previously. I have had the delicious Pide Platter ($10.35) Pide topped with ground beef, onion & pomegranate, served with fries, hummus and salad.

Pide with Spinach, Feta Cheese, Mushroom and Pomegranate Sauce

Zaatar Manakish Bread

I have also had the Pide ($8.95) with Spinach, Feta Cheese, Mushroom and Pomegranate Sauce along with the Zaatar Manakish Bread ($2.95) which was so good.

There menu is vast from traditional Pizzas in the woodstone oven topped with Chicken Shawerma on the Sofra Chicken, to Beef Donair on the “Vancouver”; there is also a selection of platters along with shared platters featuring Falafel and Dolma and Kebabs. They have Wraps and Kebab Wraps along with a selection of sides such as Pita Chips and Samosa. Rounding up the menu are a selection of traditional desserts.

Advice: They offer take out and delivery for all of their pizzas.

As a pizza lover I am always yearning to visit the new pizza joint on the block or in this case in the Yaletown neighborhood. With only weeks under their belt so to speak, there is now that spot, a good  pizza oriented restaurant with an open concept kitchen serving comfort food dishes. The lounge area features chocolate-hued leather booth seating, high-tops and a striking 20 foot-long reclaimed wood bar that emulates a giant cask.  The Parlour’s decor features plenty of heirloom pieces, old-fashioned curiosities, unique custom artwork and salvaged CN rail-ties transformed into a statement making wine rack.

Salmon Tartare

Caesar Salad

Brocco

Paulina Taylor was my dining companion for the night and we shared many dishes together. To start we had the beautifully presented Salmon Tartare ($14) Steelhead, Seaweed, Bonito, Sesame Seeds, Macadamia Nuts, Ponzu Aioli, and Micro Cilantro; followed by the Caesar Salad ($9) Maple Bacon, Roasted Garlic, Butter Croutons, Parmesan; and the Brocco ($9) Garlic, Shallots, Jalapeño, Pine Nuts, Sweet Soy Sauce.

Goldmember

#Swag (front) & Roasted (back)

The Dirty

Following our appetizers we conquered our pizza selection which was vast, we ordered 3 whole pizzas which are rectangle shape and fairly large (usually meant for 1 person). My favourite of them all was the Goldmember ($17) Caramelize Onion, Mushroom Duxelle, Yukon Gold Potato, Truffle Oil, Gruyere; followed by my second favourite the #Swag ($17) Ricotta, Roasted Pepper, Kalamata Olive, Caramelized Onion, Roasted Garlic, Golden Honey (we happened to get one pizza as a halfer, so the Swag went halfer with the Roasted); and the Roasted with Roasted Chicken, Roasted Garlic, Sundried Tomato, Basil, Chili Flake, Mozza. Lastly The Dirty ($17) Meatball, Xtra Pepperoni, Banana Pepper, Mozza gave us our fill of meat from all of the different pizzas.

You’ll find even more pizzas to try from the long list on the menu, you’ll also find an extensive selection of craft beer available on tap and by the bottle, inventive cocktails and both wine by bottle, as well as seven varietals on tap.

I’m heading back soon for a repeat and this time it’s going to be a whole #Swag pizza just for me!

Pazza Rella Pizza

480 Broughton Street, Coal Harbour by the Community Centre.

Website: http://pazzarella.ca/

Twitter: @PazzaRellaPizza

Advice: Follow them on twitter for daily open hours and location.

Many know that I love Neapolitan style pizza and have some favourites around the city, Pazza Rella Pizza puts a different sort of spin into the mix. The Neapolitan style pizza that they make is in a wood burning oven that is on a food truck, very cool and a great experience. I have indulged in their pizza a couple of times already first last month at the Richmond Night Market and again last week at their spot in Coal Harbour.

Margerita Pizza

Salami Pizza

Harvest Pizza

Bianca Funghi Pizza

Nutella, Banana, Custard Pizza

At the Richmond Night Market, Nikki and I shared two pizzas, the Margerita (fior di latte cheese, tomato sauce, basil) and the Salami (salami, cheese, tomato sauce). On my other visit I indulged in several more pizzas on my own, the Harvest Pizza topped with (butternut & buttercup squash, walnuts, feta cheese, bechamel, and caramelized onions); Bianca Funghi Pizza (white mushrooms, green onions, béchamel sauce, parmesan cheese); Wild Salmon Bianca (local salted salmon with a white sauce); and lastly for dessert and unbelievably good Nutella, Banana, Custard Pizza. This was a lot of pizza and I couldn’t eat it all, so I took to go and enjoyed more delicious pizza at home over the next day.

This is a must experience food truck, make sure you get on down to their spot either in Coal Harbour or by following them around the city. The food truck is owned by two wonderfully passionate woman who strive to create a memorable Italiano experience at prices that are going to have you running for more!
