Advice: Follow them on twitter for daily open hours and location.

Roasted Beet Fries

Steam Bun

Serving modern Asian cuisine on a food truck, owners Chef Clement Chan & Chef Steven Kuan are creating their own contemporary interpretation of classical Chinese cuisine. I first saw them last summer at the Richmond Night Market and then visited a few months later at their Georgia spot for some delish eats! I had the outstanding Roasted Beet Fries dusted with plum powder and spicy mayo along with the Steam Bun with bang bang sesame chicken, asian slaw, basil and cilantro.

There are offering new dishes all the time combining local seasonal ingredients with an abundant selection of high quality sustainable seafood and organic meats from B.C. They say it best, they want their customers to explore their culinary boundaries by pairing traditional Chinese offerings with new and refreshing flavours and textures. I would keep an eye out for this bright truck and for the new dishes these two chefs create.

Advice: No reservations.

In this stylish room, this is a South East Asian eatery with a very hip look and feel. Located at the entrance of Chinatown, you will find communal tables and a bar that is filled with tropical ingredients to shake and stir those refreshing cocktails that go so well with some spicy eats.

Peanut Noodles

Bubur Cha Cha

I have always been a fan of peanut sauce or peanut anything for that matter, I had the outstanding and flavourful Peanut Noodles ($13) spinach, shiitakes, charred eggplant, sambal ginger peanut sauce followed by a very different type of dessert which is common in Asia and less common here, the Bubur Cha Cha ($7) caramelized sweet potatoes, yams and tapioca in coconut milk.

The menu is filled with an array of snacks and bowls, covering all of the regions in South East Asia, from Malaysia to Indonesia to Thailand as well as Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches; along with salads, greens and desserts. The bar menu is filled with all sorts of unique cocktails along with beer and wine.

I can’t wait to return to try the Cha Ca Fish as well as their Green Papaya Salad.

Advice: Build Your Own is a great feature, choose a protein to any of the featured dishes and choose a starch. No reservations, take-out available. Many of the items are GF / Gluten Free and V / Vegan Friendly.

Love the concept of this healthy Asian eatery, the menu has a vast selection of appies, soups, salads and bowls, the serving size of the bowls is fairly large and each offers a healthy option such as Quinoa or Brown Rice that is either included or extra for a nominal charge.

Sable Squared

Spicy Edamame

Malay Mayday

Beef Satay Spears

On my first visit I had the delicious and healthy Sable Squared ($12) flash fried, sesame & ginger marinated sablefish, with sweet soy, quinoa, pea shoots, onions, broccilini, red pepper & snow peas, and ponzu. Back again for another visit where I had the ‘Build Your Own’ Malay Mayday ($9) coconut green curry, bok choy, broccolini, peppers, bamboo shoots, & fresh herbs and chicken, I also had some of the Spicy Edamame ($4.50) Thai chilli spiced sweet soy marinade, along with their Beef Satay Spears with Trio Sauce including the Japanese Mustard & Sesame, ginger soy, Sirachacha Chili.

The kitchen is quick and the service is great, looking forward to my next visit, perhaps with a friend so that we can have The Big Bang Daang!

Advice: Bring friends and order a variety of dishes to share. Ask your server for assistance to describe the dishes listed.

Chicken with glass noodles with peanut sauce

Marinated Dried Tofu

Mushroom wrapped bean curd

Located upstairs in the Abertdeen Centre mall, if it wasn’t for friends that I was dining with I wouldn’t have found or visited this popular restaurant. We dined in a private room, banquet style in the round with a spin top table to move around our various dishes. Our server poured a Sumac Ridge Brut and Chinese tea all around for those that wanted bubbly or tea. We began with 3 cold tasty dishes that included my favourite Chicken with glass noodles with peanut sauce ($5.95); Marinated Dried Tofu with 5 spices ($5.95); and a Mushroom wrapped bean curd ($5.95) which was Smoked tofu filled with mushrooms. We then moved on had a selection of dishes, the Vegetarian Tofu Dumplings ($5.95) ; the Crab and Tofu ($10.95); and the Tea Smoked Duck ($14.95) which was so flavourful.

Alaskan King Crab with Roasted Garlic

Deep Fried Alaskan King Crab

Portugese Style Rice served in the crab shell

Hand Pulled Noodles

This is a restaurant that I would have never discovered on my own without hearing about it from a friend who is in the know on where to find some of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. It appeared we were in for a real treat when my dining companions and I visited this restaurant that specializes in King Crab dishes. Here we were served a multitude of dishes that included 1) Alaskan King Crab with Roasted Garlic 2) Deep Fried Alaskan King Crab with garlic and bread crumbs and some cucumber salad 3) Portugese Style Rice served in the crab shell 4) Hand Pulled Noodles in Crab Jus. The crab is priced at $15.98 per pound (prices change), so based on the number of guests in your party they will estimate the cost. After these main dishes we were also served a Choy Vegetable dish. My favourite dishes of the evening went to the Alaskan King Crab with Roasted Garlic and the Deep Fried Alaskan King Crab with garlic and bread crumbs both of these were so very good!

Agar - Coconut, Lychee and Black Sesame

Pumpkin and Tapioca Dessert Soup

To finish off our meal, we were served the Agar with a few variations that included Coconut, Lychee and Black Sesame all were good this then followed by a Pumpkin and Tapioca Dessert Soup which was hot and so tasty. The room is beautiful and this is one of the nicest fine dining Chinese restaurants in the city.

HAWKER’S DELIGHT

Hawkers Delight1

Advice: Let me know if you want your dishes spicy or non-spicy, don’t be afraid to ask them to omit an ingredient or two as you wish.

Fried Kuey Teow

Fried Kuey Teow

Asian comfort food, large portions and low prices, this is one of those places that gets it right which is one of the reasons they have been serving customers for many, many years out of this small space. Often there are line-ups out the door for lunch and dinner, many people stand in line and then take their food to go as their isn’t an open seat in the house. I had a new dish, Fried Kuey Teow ($5.25) fried broad rice noodle, with bean sprouts, prawns, fish cake, shredded chicken and green vegetable. This one dish was filling and hit the spot and was good value. They offer a good range of other Singaporean and Malaysian dishes including Gado Gado, Mee Goreng, Nasi Goreng, Lamb Curry Rice, Laksa and other items. Just as in Southeast Asia Hawker’s is a delight.
