Advice: Dinners Thursday – Saturday nights; daytime operations daily.

Each time I visit Livia the aroma of freshly baked bread entices me inside to stay awhile.  Livia’s baking is exceptional from the breads, to the baked goods, to the larger plates, visit for breakfast and come back later for more sweets and coffee.

Cortado

Plum Franzipane Tart

Ricotta Toast

Orange Danish

I adore the aesthetic at this well appointed, and stylish spot run by husband wife duo, Claire and Jordan, it’s a cafe where foodies are engaged in conversation enjoying their food and drink. Over the past year I have been in numerous times, some on my own and others with friends. I have enjoyed my go to Cortado’s along with delicious baking such as the Plum Franzipan Tart which I loved; I have also had the Ricotta Toast as well as the Orange Danish.

Challah

Torta del Nona

Most of the breads are freshly baked daily, outside of the challah which comes out of the oven Friday – Sunday. I have taken the Italian White bread to go along with the delicious Challah. For several of the holidays they make specialty breads and tarts such as the this one they did for Thanksgiving, they made the Torta del Nona which featured a ricotta custard base, made with lemon and topped with pine nuts which was superb.

Claire had a passion for baking at a young age, she trained at the Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver, worked at some cafes and bakeries until she began to develop her own line of baked goods and breads which she then sold through the various farmers markets around the city, her dream was to open her own café one day and that dream became a reality with her husband Jordan a little over a year ago. Most recently they launched a dinner service on Thursday – Saturday’s where feature house-made pastas and other dishes; and I’m looking forward to visit again one day soon for dinner.
