As a passionate baker, Mario Armitano has had a long baking career from starting out to running his popular bakery La Baguette et L’Echalote on Granville Island years ago. I used to frequent the spot for it’s good breads and tasty treats, as life evolved there had been changes. The past few years he had been developing recipes for gluten free breads and pastries working for other bakeries. Recently he returned to the type of bakery he was known for a place to celebrate European style breads and pastries, Panidor was born in the heart of Mount Pleasant.

He starts his day before the crack of dawn, baking fresh breads and pastries, from Almond Croissants, to eclairs, brioche to desserts and cakes. Each time that I have visited I have had great chats with him about life, music and food. I have tried a couple of their sandwiches including the Smoked Salmon Sandwich with quinoa on potato rosemary bread; and the Chicken Sandwich toasted on cheese garlic bread. Here you select your fillings from the daily offering and choose your bread from the selection available. Enjoyed an Espresso Macchiatto along with an Almond Cream Brioche during one of my other visits.

There is a good selection of seating upstairs as well as on the main floor where the bakery and café, the large room with art adorning the walls. The Coffee and Chocolate Eclairs are tempting and I am looking forward to my next visit to give them a try.
