With it’s focus on the Asian Bao steamed buns, here it’s all about the creative and innovative toppings that are enhanced by Asian flavours. Think Asian fusion meets taco, and a taco is quite similar to a Bao aside from the difference in culture, texture and flavour. Where the taco is all about the tortilla the bao is all about the steamed bun. Their menu features several different types of Bao’s with all sorts of toppings from fish to chicken to veggie. I have been by for several visits since opening having had the Jaws ($5) coconut-crusted Ocean-Wise Vietnamese catfish, kimchi tartar sauce, micro greens, cabbage, and a Thai vinaigrette; along with a cod special Bao, and the VeVo ($5) tamari braised shiitake, sprouts, kale, beets, micro greens, carrot and peanut sauce which was my favourite. I have also had outlandish and amazing, Kimchi Fries ($8) loaded with crispy fries, kimchi, crispy pork, garlic, scallions, bean sprouts and sweet soy.
In addition to the Bao’s you will find street sandwiches which are more like baguettes filled with more of the same type of fillings, as well some salads and French Fry offerings, this all comes with a hipster vibe making this a great spot for an afternoon or evening snack or an indulgent meal.
