Chef/Owner Curtis Demyon’s nickname ‘Lips’, apropos to the name of his restaurant that has added a sense of energy to the Davie street dining scene in the heart of the westend.
I began my evening sharing some dishes with my friend Jordan Rogers, we started with the Wild Mushroom & Quinoa Fritters ($9) pickled onion, truffle ketchup, sauce mornay; this was followed by the tasty and colourful, Tomato Three Ways ($13) kale, Fontina fritters, roasted shallot vinaigrette.
Next was the delicious, Yukon Gold Potatoes ($12) creamed leek, oven dried tomatoes, asparagus, pickled fennel, Grana Padano; followed by the outstanding, Burger ($14) beef, house smoked cheddar, bacon creamed spinach, pickled onion, tomato, avocado.
We both loved the Smoked Black Cod ($25) clams, peas, hand cut pappardelle, confit jalapeno, padano; this was followed by the Grilled Moroccan Chicken Thighs ($12) crackling, pickled carrot, cumin yogurt served with delicious fried roti on the side.
For dessert, my favourite of the two we had was the delicious and refreshing, Mango Passionfruit Tart ($9) vanilla bean shortbread, mango mousse, smoked coconut, passionfruit curd, mango sorbet; the other was the Chocolate Orange Terrine ($9) chocolate genoise, milk chocolate ganache, hazelnut ice cream.
I’m looking forward to returning soon to try more dishes as well as their weekend brunch.
