It’s pretty much a given that when I receive an invite to a chocolate party, that is a party I will be attending, for the love of chocolate! Master Chocolatier Wim Tas and his wife Veve Tas are the proprietors of ChocolaTas, the chocolate factory is located in Abbotsford with a retail shop in the heart of Granville Island Market.

At this party held after hours at their Granville Island shop, I enjoyed indulging in many of their chocolates, after trying several I found my new favourite, the Hasselse Koffie Chocolates filled with gin, chocolate, and coffee!

 

Relocating from Belgium to Canada in 2002, Tas has been creating beautifully flavoured, hand crafted chocolates for the past 12 years. While developing the new Elegance line, Wim, with his wife and business partner Veve, were very much influenced by local ingredients readily available around them – lavender and mint from their own garden, organic hazelnuts from Agassiz, raspberries and cranberries from the Lower Mainland, peaches and pears from the Okanagan. However, at ChocolaTas the key element in all products still remains chocolate. Flavour infusions never dominate over the pure taste of chocolate; rather, they are a subtle and simple addition to the beautifully smooth and rich taste.
