Advice: Reservations suggested for dinner as well as their special familia suppers. Weekend brunch offered on Saturdays.

Off the grid on the edge of East Village is where I found two passionate restaurateurs one of which is a talented trained chef who is worked in several Michelin star restaurants in London and now owns this hideaway. The split-level eatery featured a scattering of tables seating 15 or so guests upstairs, with an open kitchen and seating for another 15 on the main level. It’s stylish, black and designed by the other partner who is a trained Interior designer.

The plates are dishes you may find at those first class restaurants in London with a local twist and they are going to change by the season. I started off my meal with a delicious bowl of Parsnip Soup ($5), this followed by some of their house-baked bread which is baked fresh each morning. Next was the outstanding Tuna Tartare  ($8.50) with bright citrus notes from the orange segments, with capers and pine nuts for added flavour and crunch. The Ricotta Gnocchi ($13) was a bowl of perfectly cooked gnocchi on top of a smooth rich herb cream sauce. The Sous Vide Chicken Breast ($13) had an outstanding green sauce of herbs, gherkins and capers & arugula!

The Lava Cake ($7) was delicious and delicate with its slight ooze of chocolate goodness from the center. You will find a small wine, beer and cocktail list as well as a limited selection of food products for sale in the display on the side wall. They are now offering bi-weekly family style suppers that feature a selection of courses and this is one meal that I can-not wait to try.
