Field Trip to Whistler

“FieldTrips” is either a day trip or a few days where I visit food areas of interest which may include farm visits, producers, wineries, restaurants and/or other places that people can visit. This is about offering Vancouver Foodster readers a chance to get out of town and take a “Field Trip” for the day or a few days to explore, learn, taste and experience.

Field Trip to Whistler

Aava Whistler Hotel

This past Labour Day weekend, my family and I visited Whistler, once on the road we headed on to Hwy 1 going West and then North on Highway 99. After a 90 minute drive we arrived in Whistler and checked-in to our hotel, stayed at the centrally located Aava Whistler Hotel.

Aubergine Grill

We headed straight to dinner at the Aubergine Grill in the Westin Whistler Hotel which was located a couple blocks away from our hotel. Located on the 2nd floor of the hotel, dinner is served nightly at Aubergine, it’s a large dining room with comfortable seating, our server took gracious care of us with suggestions of dishes and such.

The next day I visited Pure Bread, one of the areas’ best bakeries located about 10 minutes south of the village in Function Junction.

The shop was fairly small with a some seats, the bakery in the back was much larger, the bakers working a way making their breads and baked goods, with a wonderful aroma filling the air.

After eating some of the baked goods at Pure Bread, I drove back into Whistler to do some walking around before we headed off for lunch. Afterwards, my family joined me at Earl’s in Whistler Village.

Earl’s is across from the Pan Pacific in Whistler and very centrally located in the village, the restaurant has quite a large patio outside, though we chose to eat inside the dining room.

Chicken Clubhouse

Grilled Chicken Sante Fe Salad

Vegi & Chicken Quesadilla

The family friendly restaurant serves lunch and dinner daily and the servers were friendly and most helpful.

Jazz at Whistler Olympic Plaza

After lunch we took in some of the concerts at the Jazz on the Mountain Festival that was taking place in Whistler during the weekend. Concerts were held at the Whistler Olympic Plaza as well as Millennium Place, Village Stage and on top of Whistler Mountain. World renown musicians included Kevin Eubanks, Stanley Jordon, The Rippingtons, Spyro Gyra and others.
