Simply put, Vancouver is the ULTIMATE FOODIE city because of the variety of cultures that are represented. Dining in all the different restaurants in the city is like taking a culinary trip around the world. In a city where ingredients are abundant and cultures are so diverse; Vancouver opens up a cornucopia of opportunity for chefs to work their magic. Speaking of chefs, the talents of the chefs in this city alone makes it the ultimate foodie city. From pioneer masters like John Bishop, Bruno Marti and Tojo to Canada’s first Iron Chef Rob Feenie and most recently crowned Canada’s Top Chef Dale Mackay, Vancouverites are spoiled by the talents that are in the kitchens of Vancouver restaurants.  It is not only the restaurants with high notoriety, but also the proverbial “whole in the wall” types that offer fantastic fare on any given day. There is so much to discover and taste in this culinary city.

What more can a foodie ask for besides great food? Obviously great drink – and how can Vancouver not be considered an ultimate foodie city when you consider the vineyard and brewhouses that are right in her backyard! Wines, spirits and beers of all types are available and many are locally produced. So given the variety of both food and drink to choose from, Vancouver is most definitely THE ULTIMATE FOODIE CITY!!

what makes Vancouver the perfect place to be an Ultimate Foodie is its multiculturalism. there are so many different kinds of ethnic food that can be found, from the usual ones, e.g. american, italian, chinese, to more uncommon ones, e.g. persian, african, turkish, brazilian, swedish, etc. fusion food is also created, combining some aspects of two or more of these different ethnic food. diverse types of packaged & fresh food (both imported and locally produced) sold in stores as well as concern friendly food (e.g. gluten free, raw vegan) are also available. diverse dining atmosphere (food cart, casual, family, fine dining), cooking classes, food tour, alcoholic drink pairing, etc, all can be experienced in vancouver. the city also has so many talented chefs who can provide excellent dining experience.

Where the fertile river estuary meets the wooded mountains; where the ocean splendour hugs the city streets; where the liquid sunshine grows the gooseberries plump beneath the birch trees filled with sap; where the forests hide morels and sunchokes mere minutes from the cranberry plains; Vancouver was a foodie’s heaven long before foodies were invented, but what makes Vancouver  the ULTIMATE FOODIE city is the creativity that all of these pieces naturally inspires within the chefs who call this city home.

Vacouver is great as a foodie mecca, because it has access to superb local ingredients; excellent source of seafood and a coterie of food aficionados that foster a community focused on enjoying best of culinary experiences.

I’ve traved Europe for 5 weeks, eaten my way across China for two months and lived in Los Angeles for a year and a half and eaten my way across the world on my other various travels and I can contest that Vancouver can competee with world class restaurants internationally in all cuisines be it from the simple diner offering cozy home cooked meals at the Elbow Room Cafe to gourmet offerings at CinCin to decadent dessert at Thomas Haas or Bella Gelateria.  And we have areas of the Lower Mainland where we certain ethniticies reign supreme and I swear I was back in China when I nosh down on dim sim in Kirin’s in Richmond or in Roma when I have pizza at Lombardos on the Drive.  And celebrity chefs such Top Chef Dale MacKay have chosen their homes in Vancouver.  We are so fortunate to be living in a city where foodies can indulge and each week unearth new culinary treasure.  And even if youeat your way through the restaurants starting with the alphabet from A-Z, you’d never reach the end of Z before you die.

  • Amy

this city is the best place for foodies bcuz there are so many great dining options to choose from. From Japadog to Cin Cin and everything in between. Plus we have the ability to be outside for so much of the year it makes a great opportunity for dining al fresco

  • Arlene Kroeker

Born and raised in Vancouver, my foodie experience started when I was a kid. Hot summer days spent picking blueberries, although at times I ate more than I picked. In the neighbourhood, everyone had a garden and shared their harvest. I’d walk the few blocks to the farmers’ gate to get what we didn’t grow ourselves. And, young as I was,  I enjoyed cooking – taking what I found and, in a MacGyver way, creating meals shared by the family. Take that and multiple it by the number of chefs, restaurants, food producers, farmers and fishers, and that’s Vancouver – the ultimate foodie city.

What I love most about Vancouver as a food mecca is it’s multiculturalism. We have so many unique and interesting ppl living here in Vancouver and they alll bring a unique perspective to food. Match that with some creative chefs and we can have some amazing experiences. Yummy

What makes Vancouver the perfect place to be an Ultimate Foodie? Well…I will say because of the variety of culture background and progressive creativity for cuisine. Vancouver has so many immigrants come from all over the world and they bring their best food experience with them when they are moving. Many people say we have the best dim-sum out of HK in the world, and our sushi restaurants are more than Starbucks.
For creative, our chefs and restaurateurs are always looking for new and exciting ways to dealing with foods. Recent example, just one year, our street vendors are become one of the street cart tour destination in the world. Our street carts are so creative and keep the excitment for foods.

    I love Vancouver! haha

In Vancouver there are so many facets for a full range of foodies! From urban gardening, tree fruit project, Quest Food exchange, culinary training in the DTES, Circle Farm Tours, community kitchens, food and wine festivals, food carts and food establishments from the PNE to the Fairmont! Something for every palette! We are passionate about our cultures and share them across the table experiencing authentic cuisines from around the world! There is nothing like the Vancouver food scene!

  • http://twitter.com/tarves33 Christine Tarves

Vancouver is the best place to be a foodie because of all the other foodies.  People are passionate about great food and it shows.  It’s fun to get suggestions and share stories about our experiences!

  • http://twitter.com/PaulinaTaylor Paulina Taylor

Vancouver is the ultimate dining experience because it not only offers diversity but the people in the community have strong bonds with food and this reflects the time, preparation and quality. Since we care about the food, we also care about where it came from – This has resulted in very local, fresh ingredients. Of course the food is not the reason why Vancouver is a great dining experience. Our surroundings also make it the ultimate foodie experience. For one the people are much friendlier then other cities, but it ultimately boils down to our beautiful city – We have so many options to choose! You can dine on the water’s edge or at the top of mountains that overlook the city; you can explore multicultural communities or stay in our beautiful downtown core amidst some pretty gorgeous architecture. So, with all of this said, I would have to say that it is the ultimate foodie destination because of quality/freshness of ingredients, the passion in the community and actual city itself!!!!!

-Of course the diversity also is a key aspect, but I’m trying to switch it up ;)

Vancouver is the ULTIMATE FOODIE city
because we are able to experience a large assortment of cultures simply through
the food we eat. Vancouver is known as a multi cultural city that embraces and
welcomes all nationalities. Restaurants are able to take advantage of a number
of local producers for the freshest ingredients that create some of the most
delicious and uniquely tasting food I have experienced. Each corner in
Vancouver, be it China Town, the West End, Gastown, Kitsalano and beyond,
offers to the diner a wide variety of choices. We In Vancouver are lucky to be
able to experience a journey through cuisines that introduce us to a new and
exciting array of rare tastes, sounds, and ambience. Vancouver is known for its
colourful images of landscape, people and industries. The same goes for the
beautiful images of colourful food waiting for us to experience and indulge in.
We in Vancouver do not have to travel far to be able to experience a world of
foods. Thus, Vancouver is the ULTIMATE FOODIE city because we are able to
indulge in and experience a world of food in one city.

The Greater Vancouver area just has so many great places to eat at. We have such a great Asian selection of food, not only in Richmond but all around Vancouver. Japanese, Korean, Chinese, you name it, you can find it. Honestly, we have it all and I am so lucky to be able to think of any cuisine, and be able to find something good to eat within a 20 minute drive with the price range of your choice. If stumped, there’s always UrbanSpoon too.

Where to start? No matter what neighbourhood you may be luckily stuck in at the moment, a great new adventure for your taste buds is sure to be a few steps away. Never mind all the world renowned chefs and restaurants (though, do you know anyone who would be complaining while at Tojo’s or Joe Fortes) – we have everything from a quirky little cafe to your hole in the wall restaurants to the most intriguing hot dog stands (“Why’s there a line up over there” – tourist). And while we’re on the case of variety – ever try taking a Vancouver n00b on a food tour? First thing they would say (other than an exclamation of “MMMM!”) is either they’ve only seen or heard of such delicacies on television or books or that they’re amazed by the variety of cultures presented by the food Vancouver has to offer. So why is Vancouver the ultimate foodie experience? World class adventure for your taste buds, my friends.

Kathy Ko:  Vancouver has an ever expanding and adventurous foodie scene.  Having been born and raised in this wonderful city, it’s interesting to see the foodie landscape evolve over the years.  As well, the city embraces a wide diversity of ethnicities that results in us being able to have the good fortune to taste delicious food from all over the world.  I am happy to have food reviewers and food bloggers go try and then inform me about new tasty discoveries.

Vancouver is the ultimate place to be a foodie because it is so densely populated with people who LOVE food!  It seems every couple of days a new and exciting edible venture will pop up out of nowhere and blow your socks off.  Vancouverites also really enjoy being the first to know about a new spot, and love hidden gems (Salt & Judas Goat, anyone?).  We have Canada’s first Iron Chef creating succulent dishes at a mid-range Vancouver food chain…if that doesn’t scream average Vancouverite palate, I don’t know what does!

  • Linda Nguyen

Vancouver is THE best to be an ultimate foodie because of the variety we have! We have a multicultural community here and in turn, we get to sample some of the worlds finest cuisines right here in our back yard.  We can visit japan, austria, china and anywhere we like just by eating in Vancouver!

Vancouver is sthe Ultimate Foodie location because of its diversity in restaurants and the people..who needs to leave Vancouver to get the taste of the world….there are new dinning experiences on every corner, whether its a restaurant or food cart. Best city in the world for dinning experiences and great service

  • http://twitter.com/GluttonwithaCam A.J. Kwong

Vancouver, situated by the ocean and surrounded by the freshest produce, is home to a vibrant, diverse and fantastically innovative culture. All of the aforementioned factors make this city a hotbed for a wonderful array of varied foods all looking to gain clout with the ever voracious appetites of its inhabitants. Few cities in the world can claim to have such a bounty of differing foods to satisfy the palate as well as the appetite. Food cart culture is only just now making a name for itself and the competition born of that will definitely stoke the fires of new recipes and tasty ideas. From Westcoast food to French, Italian, Asian and beyond, there is no shortage of culinary delights to wet even the most refined and/or discerning of appetites.

Vancouver is the Ultimate Foodie City for so many reasons. It has incredibly diverse cultures, fertile land which allows for a plethora of fresh produce and live stock, beautiful landscape and scenery, an environmentally and health conscious population, and one of the fastest growing quality wine regions near by. But the number one reason why Vancouver is the ultimate foodie city is becase we have a lively community of like-minded foodies who are passionate about sharing the epicurean delights our city has to offer.

  • http://twitter.com/Cutepigblog Mimi U

Vancouver is probably one of the most culturally diverse city in the world.  Not only does the city offer exquisite cuisines from all around the world, but also offers many outstanding restaurants in different types (ie. bistro, izakaya, fine dining, pub, ayce).  One can spend his/her whole life exploring the food scene and discover a new place everyday. The best part is it is dynamic and always growing. My personal favourites are Japanese and chinese cuisines which are not only superior than what most cities have to offer but also the prices are reasonable as well.

  • http://twitter.com/mywinepal Karl @ MyWinePal

Vancouver and Greater Vancouver is a foodie paradise.  It has no pretense of how food should be.  It can have great French, German, Indian, Chinese and other restaurants all in the same block.  This also brings together cross polinization of foods and flavours between different cultures.  We are also blessed with wonderful seafood here.  Salmon, halibut, spot prawns, and many oysters to slurp with wonderful BC Okanagan wines.  We shouldn’t forget about the wines too that are from here and are a wondeful compliment to our fresh food in Vancouver.

  • Renee Siu

My family is big on traveling so I’ve been to many places around the world. One thing that separates Vancouver from all the other places around the world is the ability to eat authentic anything at all. No matter if it’s pho, BBQ pork, pasta or donairs, there are so many immigrants making Vancouver so multicultural. That’s why I feel that Vancouver is the ultimate place for a foodie to be.
